June 1, 2018
St. Justin, Martyr
First Friday

Dear Family of Mary!

Today, the Parish of St. James announced some wonderful news! I share it here, as Fr. Marinko relayed it after the Evening Program at St. James:

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Today to all Parishioners, all Friends of Medjugorje and the Queen of Peace, today our Holy Father, Pope Francis, sent us good news! The Office of the Holy See, at noon on the Feast of Corpus Christi announced the following news:

On this day, the 31st of May, 2018, the Holy See has appointed Henrik Hoser, SAC, the retired Archbishop of Warsaw-Prague (Poland) as Apostolic Visitor with a special role for the parish of Medjugorje for an indefinite time, and ad nutum Sanctae Sedis [with the approval of the Holy See]. At the specific request of the Holy See, his appointment is for pastoral ministry, a continuation of the mission of the Special Envoy of the Holy See for the Parish of Medjugorje, entrusted to Mgr. Hoser on February 11, 2017, and which he completed in the previous months.

The purpose of the mission of the Apostolic Visitor is to provide a firm and permanent accompaniment of the parish community in Medjugorje and the faithful who come on pilgrimage here, whose needs require special attention.

With all our heart we want to thank Pope Francis for such wonderful news. We want to say thank you. We thank the Lord; we thank the Queen of Peace. Dear Friends of Medjugorje and of the Queen of Peace, I know that your hearts are rejoicing, filled with joy. With great joy and respect, with faithfulness and loyalty, we are awaiting the coming now of the Apostolic Visitor with special authority, jurisdiction and role, Archbishop Hoser. We await him with joy!

Let us, brothers and sisters, with all the more enthusiasm and heart, try to live that which our Mother has been telling us. Let us be her extended hands of peace in the world. May the peace and love of God dwell in our hearts. May we become the carriers of that peace and love throughout the world. Amen (Fr. Marinko, Pastor of the Parish of Medjugorje, May 31, 2018)
This is wonderful news, shared on this Feast Day of the Visitation and the Feast of Corpus Christi as well! We can only respond to Fr. Marinko's call to be the extended hands of the Queen of Peace in the world, as we respond to Our Lady's call!

In Jesus, Mary and Joseph!

Mary TV: May 31, 2018 Reflection - The Visitation!

The Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Dear Family of Mary!

On this beautiful feast, we remember Our Mother's visit to her cousin Elizabeth. Mary went with haste to visit her cousin because Gabriel told her that Elizabeth was pregnant! This was astonishing news! Elizabeth had been barren for many years. Mary visited Elizabeth as any good cousin would, to help her in her time of need. But she also carried with her the incredible news that the Savior had come, being conceived in her womb. Both women were participants in a great plan of salvation initiated by God!

This visitation was prophetic and Spirit filled! Elizabeth prophesied to Mary about Jesus and the Holy Spirit fell upon Elizabeth and John (in her womb) at the presence of Jesus in Mary's womb. It was a powerful moment for them all!! Little Jesus was already blessing His people. And Our Lady was visiting! She was carrying Jesus to Elizabeth and John! She was doing her work of visiting, like all women of her day. Visiting relatives in order to help them in need. But she was bringing the kind of help that only she could bring, the presence of Jesus!

In our day, Mother Mary is also visiting. She is visiting us in Medjugorje. She is bringing little Jesus with her. She is coming to help her relatives in Medjugorje, the family that Jesus gave to her at the foot of the Cross. We are her children, because Jesus gave her to us! And so she visits us, bringing graces and blessings for each of us.

She once said to us:

"Dear children, My coming to you is a gift from the Heavenly Father for you. Through His love I am coming to help you to find the way to the truth, to find the way to my Son. I am coming to confirm the truth to you. I desire to remind you of the words of my Son. He pronounced words of salvation for the entire world, the words of love for everyone - that love which He proved by His sacrifice. But even today, many of my children do not know Him, they do not want to come to know Him, they are indifferent. Because of their indifference my heart suffers painfully. My Son has always been in the Father. By being born on earth He brought the divine and from me received the human. With Him the word came among us. With Him came the light of the world which penetrates hearts, illuminates them and fills them with love and consolation. My children, all those who love my Son can see Him, because His face can be seen through the souls which are filled with love for Him. Therefore, my children, my apostles, listen to me. Leave vanity and selfishness. Do not live only for what is earthly and material. Love my Son and make it so that others may see His face through your love for Him. I will help you to come to know Him all the more. I will speak to you about Him. Thank you." (March 2, 2016)

Our Lady's coming to us is a gift from the Heavenly Father! Just as He sent Mary to Elizabeth all those years ago, so now He sends her to us, so that we will have all the graces we need to survive, spiritually, in this very difficult time.

May we always pray with Our Lady these words she spoke in joy to the Lord at the Visitation:

The Prayer of Mary
My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
my spirit rejoices in God my Savior
for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant.
From this day all generations will call me blessed:
the Almighty has done great things for me,
and holy is his Name.

He has mercy on those who fear him
in every generation.
He has shown the strength of his arm,
he has scattered the proud in their conceit.

He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,
and has lifted up the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent away empty.

He has come to the help of his servant Israel
for he remembered his promise of mercy,
the promise he made to our fathers,
to Abraham and his children forever.
(Lk 1:46-55)

Mary TV: May 30, 2018 Reflection - Adore Jesus in your heart!

(c)Mary TV 2014
Adoration in Medjugorje

May 30, 2018

Dear Family of Mary!
"Dear children! In this peaceless time, I am calling you to have more trust in God who is your Father in Heaven and who has sent me to lead you to Him. You, open your hearts to the gifts which He desires to give you and, in the silence of your heart, adore my Son Jesus who has given His life so that you may live in eternity - where He desires to lead you. May your hope be the joy of a meeting with the Most High in everyday life. Therefore, I am calling you: do not neglect prayer because prayer works miracles. Thank you for having responded to my call." (May 25, 2018)

We all love to attend Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. It is especially powerful in Medjugorje. Thousands of people remain in complete silence for an hour or more, with only intermittent songs and prayers. Most of that time is spent in silence, gazing upon the Eucharist displayed in the large Monstrance of the outdoor Altar. It seems that time stops. No one wants the Adoration to end. It is stunning!

But Our Lady tells us something equally stunning in this message. "...in the silence of your heart, adore my Son Jesus who has given His life so that you may live in eternity - where He desires to lead you." She tells us that we can adore her Son Jesus in the silence of our hearts, any time, anywhere! We can gaze upon our Savior in the silence of our hearts because He reigns there. He is waiting there for us to behold Him. He is present within each of us, longing for our attention. We can adore Him in the silence of our own hearts!

Our Lady told St. Faustina the very same thing:

November 29, [1936]. The Mother of God has taught me how to prepare for the Feast of Christmas. I saw Her today, without the Infant Jesus. She said to me: My daughter, strive after silence and humility, so that Jesus, who dwells in your heart continuously, may be able to rest. Adore Him in your heart; do not go out from your inmost being. My daughter, I shall obtain for you the grace of an interior life which will be such that, without ever leaving that interior life, you will be able to carry out all your external duties with even greater care. Dwell with Him continuously in your own heart. He will be your strength. Communicate with creatures only in so far as is necessary and is required by your duties. You are a dwelling place pleasing to the living God, in you He dwells continuously with love and delight. And the living presence of God, which you experience in a more vivid and distinct way, will confirm you, my daughter, in the things I have told you. Try to act in this way until Christmas Day, and then He himself will make known to you in what way you will be communing and uniting yourself with Him.  (Diary 785)

Such adoration could change our lives. To be able to adore Jesus always, to be in deep communion of spirit with Him all day long! Well it would be heaven. I believe that it is possible, that we can adore Jesus in just this way, and that it is essential if we are to be led into eternity, to live forever with Him. We must start that life now!

Dearest Mother, obtain for us the grace of adoring Jesus in our hearts.  We want to receive that grace and live it always!!

In Jesus, Mary and Joseph!

Mary TV: May 29, 2018 Reflection - Open your hearts to the gifts

(c)Mateo Ivankovic 2018

May 29, 2018

Dear Family of Mary!
"Dear children! In this peaceless time, I am calling you to have more trust in God who is your Father in Heaven and who has sent me to lead you to Him. You, open your hearts to the gifts which He desires to give you and, in the silence of your heart, adore my Son Jesus who has given His life so that you may live in eternity - where He desires to lead you. May your hope be the joy of a meeting with the Most High in everyday life. Therefore, I am calling you: do not neglect prayer because prayer works miracles. Thank you for having responded to my call." (May 25, 2018)
"You, open your hearts to the gifts which He desires to give you..."

God wants to give us so many gifts!! He is always pouring out gifts upon us. We may not recognize them as coming from our Father in Heaven, but often when we look back on our lives we see that what we lived through could not have been endured or we could not have prospered without God's gifts to us.

Here is the classic list of gifts that come from the Holy Spirit to us, according to St. Thomas Aquinas:
The nature of the seven gifts has been debated by theologians since the mid-second century, but the standard interpretation has been the one that St. Thomas Aquinas worked out in the thirteenth century in his Summa Theologiae [the citings are from the Summa, if you wish to read from Thomas directly]:
1. Wisdom is both the knowledge of and judgment about "divine things" and the ability to judge and direct human affairs according to divine truth (I/I.1.6; I/II.69.3; II/II.8.6; II/II.45.1-5).
2. Understanding is penetrating insight into the very heart of things, especially those higher truths that are necessary for our eternal salvation-in effect, the ability to "see" God (I/I.12.5; I/II.69.2; II/II.8.1-3).
3. Counsel allows a man to be directed by God in matters necessary for his salvation (II/II.52.1).
4. Fortitude denotes a firmness of mind in doing good and in avoiding evil, particularly when it is difficult or dangerous to do so, and the confidence to overcome all obstacles, even deadly ones, by virtue of the assurance of everlasting life (I/II.61.3; II/II.123.2; II/II.139.1).
5. Knowledge is the ability to judge correctly about matters of faith and right action, so as to never wander from the straight path of justice (II/II.9.3).
6. Piety is, principally, revering God with filial affection, paying worship and duty to God, paying due duty to all men on account of their relationship to God, and honoring the saints and not contradicting Scripture. The Latin word pietas denotes the reverence that we give to our father and to our country; since God is the Father of all, the worship of God is also called piety (I/II.68.4; II/II.121.1).
7. Fear of God is, in this context, "filial" or chaste fear whereby we revere God and avoid separating ourselves from him-as opposed to "servile" fear, whereby we fear punishment (I/II.67.4; II/II.19.9).

I look at these gifts as navigational tools. We make countless decisions each day, such as: when to pray, what to eat, how to get our work done, who needs a call from us, how we can take care of our children, how we can love our spouse or our parents, how to vote, etc... The list is endless. We may not even know we are making decisions, but we are, all the time. Think of how the 7 gifts can help us to navigate all these decisions, ultimately finding our way into God's will and the good! They truly orient us to the good and God.

Our Lady tells us to open our hearts to these gifts, and so many more that are offered to us on our road in life. God wants to give them, it is up to us to open our hearts to them. Maybe that just means that we should expect the gifts of the Holy Spirit at each step of our path. Maybe we should be as confident of God's desire to give us gifts as a little child is confident that his mother is watching over him 24 hours a day! Then maybe we would open our hearts to God and let the gifts just pour into us.

We need them more than ever in our day, when so many do not believe in God, much less ask for gifts. We need them. May we open out hearts to all the gifts which God wants to give us. Let's pray:

Dearest Father in Heaven, I believe that you want to give me your gifts. Our Lady tells me so. I know that I need all that you will give me. In these days, my Mother has come on a mission to lead me to Heaven, to You, Father. But I need to be given the spiritual gifts necessary to follow her and work with her for the salvation of my brothers and sisters. Help me, Father, to open my heart to you. Help me to trust you completely. Help me to forget about myself, in the sense that I should not be self conscious or shy. Help me instead to seek only you, and want to please you because I love you. And then pour out your gifts in me. I am ready!!

In Jesus, Mary and Joseph!

Mary TV: May 28, 2018 Reflection - God, Our Father in heaven.

(c)Mateo Ivankovic 2018

May 28, 2018

Dear Family of Mary!
"Dear children! In this peaceless time, I am calling you to have more trust in God who is your Father in Heaven and who has sent me to lead you to Him. You, open your hearts to the gifts which He desires to give you and, in the silence of your heart, adore my Son Jesus who has given His life so that you may live in eternity - where He desires to lead you. May your hope be the joy of a meeting with the Most High in everyday life. Therefore, I am calling you: do not neglect prayer because prayer works miracles. Thank you for having responded to my call." (May 25, 2018)

"Dear children! In this peaceless time, I am calling you to have more trust in God who is your Father in Heaven and who has sent me to lead you to Him." I must admit that I almost cried when I read these first lines of Our Lady's message. I have been feeling so discouraged by the events of our time. School shootings, the disappointing vote in Ireland, terrorism and violence in so many countries, and division in the Church...the list is long and terrible. It is a peaceless time. And I find myself fatigued and anxious.

To hear Our Lady frankly tell us that our time is peaceless is a help. Just knowing that she sees it all, and understands the strain on us, helps me. We are not alone in this peaceless time. Heaven is not standing aloof, sadly watching us destroy all that is good. In fact, the Father has sent Our Lady to lead us!! Our Lady is with us and calls us to have trust in the Father. She wants us to trust Him, no matter what we see around us. She wants us to trust our Father as she trusted Him when He asked her to be the Mother of His Son. She wants us to really let go of our fear and hand everything over to Him.

Can we do it? Can we let go of our fears and anxieties? In the face of discord and lack of peace, can we find peace?

I think the first step to finding peace is embracing God as our Father as Our Lady tells us in her message. We are His children who have every right to depend on Him. We are His family, His little ones. We cannot solve all of the troubles around us. But we have a Father who can. And so we can pray as children to the Father who cares for us. This Psalm says it properly:

Psalm 131
(A Song of Ascents. Of David.)
O LORD, my heart is not lifted up,
my eyes are not raised too high;
I do not occupy myself with things
too great and too marvelous for me.
But I have calmed and quieted my soul,
like a child quieted at its mother's breast;
like a child that is quieted is my soul.
O Israel, hope in the LORD
from this time forth and for evermore.

May we spend this day in prayer, calm and quieted like children in the arms of their Mother, and protected by the powerful presence of their Father!

In Jesus, Mary and Joseph!

Dear Family of Mary!

Today is an important day. First, we receive a message today from Our Lady. Each message we receive is a miracle of love. We cherish the words of Our Lady. And so we anticipate this message with prayer and love.

Second, today Irish Citizens vote to retain or to reject Amendment 8 of their Constitution. This amendment protects the rights of the unborn. A 'yes' vote chooses to change the 8th Amendment. A 'no' vote chooses to retain the 8th Amendment as it reads today. We pray that Our Lady will inspire the Irish citizens to vote 'no' and keep the 8th Amendment as it is in their Constitution.

As we pray in support of the Irish citizens, let's remember Our Lady's words given to us on April 25th, 2018. She spoke words of comfort and strength to us that day, words that will help us in the trials of this day.

April 25, 2018 "Dear children! Today I am calling you to live your new life with Jesus. May the Risen One give you strength to always be strong in the trials of life and to be faithful and persevering in prayer; because Jesus saved you by His wounds and by His Resurrection gave you new life. Pray, little children, and do not lose hope. May joy and peace be in your hearts and witness the joy that you are mine. I am with you and love you all with my motherly love. Thank you for having responded to my call."

May we never lose hope, because Our Lady is with us!

Mary TV: May 24, 2018 Reflection - Selections from Lumen Gentium P3

(c)Mateo Ivankovic 2017

May 24, 2018

Dear Family of Mary!

Again today we will prayerfully read a section of Chapter VIII of Lumen Gentium. This section examines the relationship of Mary and the Church, and I believe tells us so beautifully why she is the Mother of the Church! It is good to remember the teachings of the Church in this regard, so that our reverence, awe, respect and love for Mary can grow.

III. On the Blessed Virgin and the Church
60. There is but one Mediator as we know from the words of the apostle, "for there is one God and one mediator of God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself a redemption for all". (1 Tim 2:5-6) The maternal duty of Mary toward men in no wise obscures or diminishes this unique mediation of Christ, but rather shows His power. For all the salvific influence of the Blessed Virgin on men originates, not from some inner necessity, but from the divine pleasure. It flows forth from the superabundance of the merits of Christ, rests on His mediation, depends entirely on it and draws all its power from it. In no way does it impede, but rather does it foster the immediate union of the faithful with Christ.

61. Predestined from eternity by that decree of divine providence which determined the incarnation of the Word to be the Mother of God, the Blessed Virgin was in this earth the virgin Mother of the Redeemer, and above all others and in a singular way the generous associate and humble handmaid of the Lord. She conceived, brought forth and nourished Christ. she presented Him to the Father in the temple, and was united with Him by compassion as He died on the Cross. In this singular way she cooperated by her obedience, faith, hope and burning charity in the work of the Savior in giving back supernatural life to souls. Wherefore she is our mother in the order of grace.

62. This maternity of Mary in the order of grace began with the consent which she gave in faith at the Annunciation and which she sustained without wavering beneath the cross, and lasts until The eternal fulfillment of all the elect. Taken up to heaven she did not lay aside this salvific duty, but by her constant intercession continued to bring us the gifts of eternal salvation. By her maternal charity, she cares for the brethren of her Son, who still journey on earth surrounded by dangers and cultics, until they are led into the happiness of their true home. Therefore the Blessed Virgin is invoked by the Church under the titles of Advocate, Auxiliatrix, Adjutrix, and Mediatrix. This, however, is to be so understood that it neither takes away from nor adds anything to the dignity and efficaciousness of Christ the one Mediator.

For no creature could ever be counted as equal with the Incarnate Word and Redeemer. Just as the priesthood of Christ is shared in various ways both by the ministers and by the faithful, and as the one goodness of God is really communicated in different ways to His creatures, so also the unique mediation of the Redeemer does not exclude but rather gives rise to a manifold cooperation which is but a sharing in this one source.
The Church does not hesitate to profess this subordinate role of Mary. It knows it through unfailing experience of it and commends it to the hearts of the faithful, so that encouraged by this maternal help they may the more intimately adhere to the Mediator and Redeemer.

63. By reason of the gift and role of divine maternity, by which she is united with her Son, the Redeemer, and with His singular graces and functions, the Blessed Virgin is also intimately united with the Church. As St. Ambrose taught, the Mother of God is a type of the Church in the order of faith, charity and perfect union with Christ. For in the mystery of the Church, which is itself rightly called mother and virgin, the Blessed Virgin stands out in eminent and singular fashion as exemplar both of virgin and mother. By her belief and obedience, not knowing man but overshadowed by the Holy Spirit, as the new Eve she brought forth on earth the very Son of the Father, showing an undefiled faith, not in the word of the ancient serpent, but in that of God's messenger. The Son whom she brought forth is He whom God placed as the first-born among many brethren, (Rom 8: 29) namely the faithful, in whose birth and education she cooperates with a maternal love.

64. The Church indeed, contemplating her hidden sanctity, imitating her charity and faithfully fulfilling the Father's will, by receiving the word of God in faith becomes herself a mother. By her preaching she brings forth to a new and immortal life the sons who are born to her in baptism, conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of God. She herself is a virgin, who keeps the faith given to her by her Spouse whole and entire. Imitating the mother of her Lord, and by the power of the Holy Spirit, she keeps with virginal purity an entire faith, a firm hope and a sincere charity.

65. But while in the most holy Virgin the Church has already reached that perfection whereby she is without spot or wrinkle, the followers of Christ still strive to increase in holiness by conquering sin (Eph 5: 27). And so they turn their eyes to Mary who shines forth to the whole community of the elect as the model of virtues. Piously meditating on her and contemplating her in the light of the Word made man, the Church with reverence enters more intimately into the great mystery of the Incarnation and becomes more and more like her Spouse. For Mary, who since her entry into salvation history unites in herself and re-echoes the greatest teachings of the faith as she is proclaimed and venerated, calls the faithful to her Son and His sacrifice and to the love of the Father. Seeking after the glory of Christ, the Church becomes more like her exalted Type, and continually progresses in faith, hope and charity, seeking and doing the will of God in all things. Hence the Church, in her apostolic work also, justly looks to her, who, conceived of the Holy Spirit, brought forth Christ, who was born of the Virgin that through the Church He may be born and may increase in the hearts of the faithful also. The Virgin in her own life lived an example of that maternal love, by which it behooves that all should be animated who cooperate in the apostolic mission of the Church for the regeneration of men.

Our Lady, as our Mother, has come to bless us with her motherly hands. She loves us and wants us to follow her in this most decisive time, into the peace of her Son. She told us:

November 02, 2014 "Dear children, I am with you with the blessing of my Son, with you who love me and who strive to follow me. I also desire to be with you who do not accept me. To all of you I am opening my heart full of love and I am blessing you with my motherly hands. I am a mother who understands you. I lived your life and lived through your sufferings and joys. You who are living in pain understand my pain and suffering because of those of my children who do not permit the light of my Son to illuminate them; those of my children who are living in darkness. This is why I need you - you who have been illuminated by the light and have comprehended the truth. I am calling you to adore my Son so that your soul may grow and reach true spirituality. My apostles, it is then that you will be able to help me. To help me means to pray for those who have not come to know the love of my Son. In praying for them you are showing to my Son that you love Him and follow Him. My Son promised me that evil will never win, because you, the souls of the just, are here; you who strive to say your prayers with the heart; you who offer your pain and suffering to my Son; you who comprehend that life is only a blink; you who yearn for the Kingdom of Heaven. All of this makes you my apostles and leads you towards the victory of my heart. Therefore, my children, purify your hearts and adore my Son. Thank you."

We can learn so very much from Mary, our Mother!
