Our Lady of Fatima
Dear Family of Mary!
Today we celebrate
the optional memorial of Our Lady of Fatima! Here is the summary of that
apparition as printed in the Magnificat:
The
Blessed Mother appeared for the first time to three Portuguese shepherd
children on this date in 1917. Europe was in the grip of the First
World War, which would claim an astounding twenty million lives. Only
eight days before the apparition, Pope Benedict XV had begged the
Blessed Mother to intercede for the war's end. During her appearances,
Mary predicted the devastation of World War II and the grave threat
posed by Communist Russia. Her message to the children and the world:
reform your lives and do penance for your sins. Pray the rosary every
day.
The Fatima apparitions of Our Lady helped millions
of the faithful during both world wars. Our Lady was with us then, and
she is with us now. Here are three messages in which Our Lady mentioned
her presence in Fatima to the Medjugorje visionaries:
August 25, 1991 "Dear
Children! Today also I invite you to prayer, now as never before when
my plan has begun to be realized. Satan is strong and wants to sweep
away my plans of peace and joy and make you think that my Son is not
strong in His decisions. Therefore, I call all of you, dear children, to
pray and fast still more firmly. I invite you to self-renunciation for
nine days so that, with your help, everything that I desire to realize
through the secrets I began in Fatima, may be fulfilled. I call you,
dear children, to now grasp the importance of my coming and the
seriousness of the situation. I want to save all souls and present them
to God. Therefore, let us pray that everything I have begun be fully
realized. Thank you for having responded to my call."

25, 2023 "Dear children! Pray with me for peace, because Satan wants
war and hatred in hearts and peoples. Therefore, pray and sacrifice your
days by fasting and penance, that God may give you peace. The future is
at a crossroads, because modern man does not want God. That is why
mankind is heading to perdition. You, little children, are my hope. Pray
with me, that what I began in Fatima and here may be realized. Be
prayer and witness peace in your surroundings and be people of peace.
Thank you for having responded to my call."
Journal of Jelena:
Questioned
on the similarity between the signs announced in Medjugorje and the
third secret of Fatima, Jelena responds: Toward these things the Gospa
told us:
"Do
not fear anything. You must forget what is behind you in your life. I
only want that from now on, you be new people. Do not fear anything when
I am near you. I love you."
Clearly, Our Mother has been with us throughout this
century, especially in Fatima and Medjugorje. Her presence has given us
courage to pray and fast for peace and to grow in holiness. We are in
good hands. Let's stay with Our Lady in Medjugorje now in these most
decisive days when peace is challenged all over the world. As she told
us:
"Be prayer and witness peace in your surroundings and be people of peace."
