Mary Vitamin for April 17th
Topic: The Queen of Heaven and Taxes
Quote:
Richard of St. Lawrence
"[S]he is not like other rulers, who oppress their vassals with burdens and taxes; but she enriches her servants with graces, merits, and rewards."
St. Alphonsus di Liguori, The Glories of Mary, (Tan Books), 400.
Meditation:
Pope Pius XII
"From the earliest ages of the Catholic Church a Christian people, whether in time of triumph or more especially in time of crisis, has addressed prayers of petition and hymns of praise and veneration to the Queen of Heaven. And never has that hope wavered which they placed in the Mother of the Divine King, Jesus Christ; nor has that faith ever failed by which we are taught that Mary, the Virgin Mother of God, reigns with a mother's solicitude over the entire world, just as she is crowned in heavenly blessedness with the glory of a Queen."
Introduction
Resolution:
St. Alphonsus di Liguori says, Let us, in the meantime, dedicate ourselves to the service of this Queen, to honour and love her as much as we can." (Glories, 400)
Today, I will review the ways in which I serve My Queen to make sure there is something in my day to offer to her. I will remember that she does not ask for heavy taxes but on the contrary, Her Queenship is spent dispensing God's graces.
Marian Vow:
Pope Pius XII
"No one should think himself a son of Mary, worthy of being received under her powerful protection, unless, like her, he is just, gentle and pure, and shows a sincere desire for true brotherhood, not harming or injuring but rather helping and comforting others."
Encyclical AD CAELI REGINAM, paragraph 49
I give this resolution to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Thanks be to God for graces received.
