There is need for only one thing...

St. Francis of Assisi
Dear Family of Mary!
In our Gospel for today (Luke 10:38-42) Martha wanted Jesus to scold her sister for not helping her with the dinner preparations. But Jesus said instead, "Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things. There is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part and it will not be taken from her."
Mary knew what she needed! She needed eternal life. And it was from Jesus that she was beginning to find it. She could not take her eyes off of Jesus! He was showing her eternity! We know that Martha changed her mind at Jesus' words and also became like Mary. Both sisters began to long for Heaven!
Our Lady has been trying to draw us all into the desire for eternity through her messages and presence for all these years. Here is a message in which she again called us to long for heaven, to realize that there is need for only one thing, as Jesus said:

"Dear children!
Pray, witness and rejoice with me
because the Most High continues
to send me to lead you on the way of holiness.
Be aware, little children,
that life is short
and eternity is waiting for you
to give glory to God with your being,
with all the saints.
Little children,
do not worry about earthly things,
but long for Heaven.
Heaven will be your goal
and joy will begin to reign in your heart.
I am with you
and bless all of you
with my motherly blessing.
Thank you for having responded to my call."
Like Jesus, Our Lady calls us to long for Heaven and realize that there is only one thing necessary! Eternal life!
This is the Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi! He is such a powerful example of someone who was enamored with earthly life until one day he encountered Jesus and realized that there was only one thing necessary!! And what a conversion he made! He wrote this prayer which shows his deep conversion, his deep desire for Jesus. Let's pray with him today on his feast, knowing that it is Jesus alone who we need:
“There is need of only one thing”
Our Creator, Redeemer and Savior, you are the only true God, in you is the fullness of goodness, you are the true and sovereign good. You alone are good, loving, gentle, sweet and lovable, holy, just, true and fair, kind, innocent and pure. In you is all pardon, grace, and glory for all the repentant, for the just, for all who share your joy in heaven.
Let nothing separate us from you. Everywhere, at any place, at any hour and at any time, daily, ceaselessly, let us truly and humbly believe in you, love, honor and worship, praise, bless and glorify you, serve you and give thanks to you, most high, sovereign, eternal God, Trinity and Unity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, Creator of all things and Savior of all who have faith in you, who put their hope in you and who love you. You are without beginning or end, unchanging, invisible, ineffable, and inscrutable; you are sublime and great, mild and lovable, the source of joy. We desire you above all else forever and ever. Amen. (St. Francis of Assisi. From the October 2022 Magnificat Magazine - Meditation for the Day - October 4, 2022)
