For Catholics, it would be a big mistake not to appeal to her. The Virgin Mary is always happy to help the children in her care. ...Praying to the Virgin Mary publicly nowadays requires courage, humility and wisdom. We learn humility through our inability to achieve things and through the urgent nature of the assistance that we need. It was Our Lady of Life who one day drew a holy priest to her—Father Marie-Eugene! When Father Marie-Eugene discovered the ancient shrine of Our Lady of Life (Notre-Dame de Vie) in 1931, he felt a living presence there, which continued to accompany him all his life. He also found a powerful source of grace there. He later established the lay institute of Notre-Dame de Vie there. Members of Notre-Dame de Vie are deeply marked by the presence of the Virgin Mary in their life. * January 24 – Our Lady of Prayer (Toledo, Spain) - Saint Francis de Sales (d. 1622)  * Freed from anxiety before a statue of the Virgin --- An initiative of the Mary of Nazareth Association January 24 – Our Lady of Prayer (Toledo, Spain) - Saint Francis de Sales (d. 1622)  Freed from anxiety before a statue of the Virgin What strikes us the most about Saint Francis de Sales’ personality is his kindness. He had high expectations however they were equally matched by his kindness and the attention he paid to people. What was his secret? We must remember the spiritual crisis he went through. At age 19 he experienced a strong crisis of anguish and despair, which caused him to suffer from insomnia. In the context of the Protestant Reformation, the question of predestination was at the forefront of theological reflection. Francis had somehow convinced himself that he was excluded from God’s friendship forever and condemned to hell. He was freed from this anxiety before the statue of the Virgin at the church of Notre Dame des Gres in Paris, when he pronounced this act of abandonment: "Whatever happens ... I love you Lord, at least in this life if it is not granted to me to love you in eternal life; I will always place my hope in your mercy." He made the choice of pure love. The sense of freedom felt by Saint Francis de Sales was the result of this interior liberation. He had experienced mercy, and could now be a witness of mercy. This foundational experience was at work early in Francis, shaping the man who would be called one day the "Doctor of divine Love and evangelical meekness." God So Desires to Give Graces But We Stifle Him!

Our souls must be in a state of Grace to receive more Grace, but with 97% of Catholics not receiving the Sacrament of Confession on a regular basis, our Lord is stifled in giving!  Our Lord speaks to Gabrielle Bossis about His desire to give: "My very little one, don't be afraid to come and drink at the fount of My power. It never runs dry; nothing ever comes to an end in Me...Would I be God if in giving I became poorer?...I find My happiness in showering My blessings on you...And if you suspect that I have the power as well as the longing to give...you will lose your fear of imposing upon God's kindness or of being too daring with Him...How often I have had abundant treasures in My tabernacle all ready to give, but no one came to ask Me for them."

* January 21 – Our Lady of Altagracia (Dominican Republic, Central America, 1650)  * A stranger took a painting of Our Lady of High Grace out of his bag --- An initiative of the Mary of Nazareth Association January 21 – Our Lady of Altagracia (Dominican Republic, Central America, 1650)  A stranger took a painting of Our Lady of High Grace out of his bag Our Lady of High Grace is located in Higuey, Dominican Republic, 180 km from Santo Domingo. The shrine is also called Our Lady of La Nina, after the name of a young girl whose piety is behind the shrine of Higuey. Here is the story: A Spanish colonist used to go to the city of Ozama regularly to do his errands. One day, his daughter Nina, aged 14, asked him to bring back an image of Our Lady of High Grace. The father returned without having found it. He stopped at an inn, where he shared his disappointment with an old friend. At one point in their conversation, a stranger intervened and took out of his bag a painting of Our Lady of High Grace depicting the Virgin praying before the Child Jesus with Saint Joseph standing behind her! Full of joy, the girl’s father asked to buy it, but the stranger let him have it for free. The next morning, the mysterious person had left the inn. On his way home, Nina came to meet him. It was January 21st. Now a basilica stands on the spot where the father and daughter met in Higuey.
