 | Dreams of a Catholic Priest and a local doctor come to reality.On Sunday May 2, 2010, St. Luke's Medical & Dental Clinic and St. Mary's Thrift Shop was blessed by Bishop Thomas Wenski. Msgr Manual Fernandez and Dr. David Fernandez (not related) were instrumental in the clinic being started. Their idea began approximately two years ago. A free medical and dental clinic for the less fortunate was desperately needed in this part of the county. Through the efforts of approximately fifteen doctors, dentists and numerous volunteers as well as the Lake County Health Department the clinic will soon become a reality. While there are two other free medical clinics in Lake County, this will be the only free Medical and Dental Clinic. St. Mary of the Lakes, Eustis, Florida purchased the property and with the help of St Patrick's of Mt. Dora and Catholic Charities of the Orlando Diocese the clinic should be fully operational in the next few weeks. The clinic will be supported by local fund raising projects, the thrift shop and donations.This is the parish I attend Mass and volunteer at the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry. What a blessing! |  |
