2. The Greeting.
Hail, O Thou, full of grace, the Lord is with Thee and blessed art Thou amongst all women! This greeting springs from admiration. It is an outburst of enthusiasm. Every sentence gives vent to fond love. How greatly does the Angel love Mary! How finish his greeting of praise? From a human mouth these words would have sounded ridiculous flattery, a passionate overstatement. But such terms cannot be applied to the words of an angel who is incapable of adulation, of falsehood, of exaggeration! What then is Mary?
