SCRIPTURE COMMENTARY #484

And taking bread, he gave thanks and brake and gave to them, saying: "This is my body, which is given for you. Do this for a commemoration of me." In like manner, the chalice also, after he had supped, saying: "This is the chalice, the new testament in my blood, which shall be shed for you." (Luke 22:19-20)

TYPES WHICH FIND THEIR FULFILLMENT IN THE BLESSED SACRAMENT AS THE FOOD OF OUR SOULS:
1. The Tree of Life in the garden of Paradise;
2. The Paschal lamb;
3. The manna in the wilderness;
4. The wonderful food of Elias.
5. Our Lord Himself prefigured the Blessed Sacrament by two miracles: when He changed the water into wine, and multiplied the loaves and fishes.
