Mary Vitamin for September 23rd
Topic: Our Lady's offering of her Son and the witness of Padre Pio
(September 23)
Quote:
"Sic Maria dilexit mundum ut Filium suum unigenitum daret"
Mary loved the world so much that she gave up her only Son.
Bl. Joseph Marello, Bits of Gold, (Guardian of the Redeemer Books), 32.
Meditation:
Father Stefano Manelli, FI
"The trials and painful struggles to which [Padre Pio] was subject on the one hand, and the contemplation of the Divine Mother of Sorrows on the other – with her soul pierced, co-crucified with her crucified Son and ˜stone-like' on account of her sorrow at the foot of the Cross led Padre Pio to write the most beautiful words on the Coredemptress and Queen of Martyrs:
‘It seems to me that I can now grasp what the martyrdom of our most beloved Mother was […] Oh, if men would only fathom this martyrdom! Is there any one who can pity this, our dear Coredemptress? Who would deny her the beautiful title of the Queen of Marytrs"
Mary at the Foot of the Cross, V (Academy of the Immaculate: 2005), 502-3.
Resolution:
Padre Pio teaches through words and his very life lived with the stigmata the meaning of Our Lady's presence at the foot of the Cross. I will try to "fathom" the martyrdom of Our Lady by pausing before my image of Our Lady today and praying: Queen of Martyrs.
Marian Vow:
Father Stefano Manelli, FI
"It has also been written that 'Padre Pio penetrated [the mystery of] Mary's sorrows and participated therein, copied them and relived them; just as his soul was made a participant in the sufferings of the Passion, so too did he have the gift of participation in the sorrows of Mary.' It could not be otherwise, since there is an intimate and ineffable unity between the sufferings of Jesus and the sufferings of Mary, not only on the level of the flesh, but even more so on the level of the heart and of love.'"
Mary at the Foot of the Cross, V (Academy of the Immaculate: 2005), 496.
I give this resolution to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Thanks be to God for graces received.
