[MaryVitamin] resist distraction

Mary Vitamin for March 23rd

Topic: Our Lady helps us to resist distractions

"[A]fter  Jesus Christ, the Divine Mother was the most perfect in prayer of all who ever have been, or ever will be."
St. Alphonsus di Liguori, The Glories of Mary, 499.

Meditation:
St. Alphonsus lists three reasons for Our Lady's greatness in prayer:
  1. It was continual and persevering (from Her childhood)
  2. She meditated on the suffering of Christ (visited the sites of the passion)
  3. She prayed with recollection ("free from every distraction and inordinate affection" )

Resolution:
Today, in my regular prayers, I will try to imitate Our Lady in Her prayer. I will remember the events of the Passion, and I will try not to be distracted. If I become distracted, I will turn to Her and say: "May I hand over to you [whatever is causing my distraction] so that I can get back to praying the way you pray."

Marian Vow:
"To know the Immaculate, therefore, is of primary importance for loving and imitating Her, for praising and glorifying Her, for mirroring oneself in Her virtues, for discovering oneself in Her examples, for conforming oneself to Her instructions.
Father Stefano Manelli, The Marian Vow of Unlimited Consecration to the Immaculate, 21.

I give this resolution to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Thanks be to God for graces received.
