Dear Family of Mary!

Today is the 4th day of our Novena for Priests! Judging by the amount of spiritual flack I have been encountering, I think we are on the right track. This may be a very powerful intercession that we are doing together!!

Novena for Priests - Day Four

"Dear children... Say 'yes' to the Father with the heart and set out on the way of salvation to which He is calling you through the Holy Spirit. Thank you. I am especially praying for the shepherds (priests), for God to help them to be alongside you with a fullness of heart." (May 2, 2011)

Our "yes" is our response in faith to the call of God. The priest also says "yes" but in a very deep way, because he gives his entire self to God without reserve. Sr. Briege continues to teach:

I work very much in Latin America and in many other parts of the world. I say to priests that to bring Jesus to our altars is the most beautiful thing they can do.

I ask them, "Do you really believe that you have the power, because of your ordination to bring the living God down on earth? Do you have the faith that Mary had?"

When Mary said yes she said yes to give birth, to give her whole body, her whole being to let Jesus come. It would be difficult because she had to die to her own plan; she had to die to what she could do and let God fulfill his will through her. She had to watch as God fulfilled his will through Jesus.

So it is with the priest. When he says yes to the priesthood, he has to die to that part of him that would want to do everything himself, that would want to straighten out the things that are wrong, that would want to change the oppressions and the oppressors. He has to die to himself and let Jesus, through him, be the answer to these problems. He must recognize that, like Mary, he gives birth to Jesus. Only he can bring Jesus to us through the Eucharist. A PRAYER FOR PRIESTS 

Keep them, I pray Thee, dearest Lord. Keep them, for they are Thine
The priests whose lives burn out before Thy consecrated shrine.

Keep them, for they are in the world though from the world apart.

When earthly treasures tempt, allure - Shelter them in Thy heart.

Keep them and comfort them in hours of loneliness and pain,

when all their life of sacrifice for souls seems but in vain.

Keep them and remember Lord, they have no one but Thee.

They have only human hearts, with human frailty.

Keep them as spotless as the Host, that daily they caress;

their every thought and word and deed, deign, dearest Lord, to bless.

Like Mary, our priests say "yes" to the Father, give over their entire lives, and bring Jesus to birth on the altar for us.  May we support them with our love, and accompany them with our yeses!

Novena for Priests - Day Three

"...I call you to pray with all your heart for your shepherds, because my Son chose them. Thank you." (August 2, 2011)

Sr. Briege continues:

 

I sensed God asking me to go into the world and remind bishops and priests with this word, "It is not humility to deny the power of the priesthood, but it is humility to acknowledge that I have chosen them. I have chosen them not because they are holy, not because they are better than others, but I've chosen them because of my mercy, love, and compassion for humanity. It is because of this mercy, love, and compassion, that I use them to make myself present. But how I long to do it more effectively through them! Go out and tell them to believe in me." (Sr. Briege McKenna. "Miracles Do Happen." P. 74)

God has chosen our priests to become our link with Him, because He loves us so very much. Being chosen is a great and terrible reality. The men who have accepted this call are laying down their entire lives for us. We can only be filled with awe and gratitude.

Put the Sacred Scripture in a visible place in your families and read it, so that the words of peace may begin to flow in your hearts. Dear Family of Mary!

Today we await the message through Marija. I will send it out when I receive it. And we also pray Day 2 of the Novena for Priests:

Day Two - Novena for Priests   

"Dear children, ...Again I am warning you, pray for those whom my Son called, whose hands He blessed and whom He gave as a gift to you. Pray, pray, pray for your shepherds. Thank you." (April 02, 2013)

Sr. Briege McKenna writes:

I felt the Lord telling me, "I want you to go into the world to tell my people that the priesthood is their gift, so they may be fed and strengthened. I want you to call them to intercede, to love my priests, to reverence this sacrament. When my people love, reverence, and are grateful for the priesthood, priestly vocations will flourish in the their midst. It will be a joy for young men to say yes to this call because they will be supported by their communities and by their families."

Dear Family of Mary!

I received this wonderful nudge from the Holy Spirit, through our shipmate Olga from Moscow. She suggested we begin a novena for priests that will end on Sunday, February 2. (I believe it is the Feast of the Presentation. At least in the USA we celebrate it even on Sunday.) Olga writes:

I was also thinking of asking you, if you think we could do a novena for priests and consecrated souls. Unless I am mistaken, the Presentation feast is not liturgically celebrated this year (maybe because it is Sunday?) Still it will be a day of special prayer for consecrated souls. And you know that Our Lady keeps urging us to pray for our shepherds. I feel we need to do it, not just to say "Let them be, Lord, the way we want them to be", but rather to ask for the grace to understand the gift of their vocation, to be thankful for it. Like in that other recent reflection you spoke about the need to give our hearts to Our Lady, to let Her change them. And I feel that is one way to get closer to Her Heart, to pray for the souls that Her Son chose and consecrated and gave as a gift to us.

I agree...we can ask for the grace to understand the gift of the priesthood more deeply and with more gratitude in this novena. What great good this could do for our priests, if we truly could support them in our hearts through prayer.

We will read Our Lady's words each day, asking for prayer and support for our shepherds, and then pray a simple prayer for our priests. Sometimes I may quote from other sources about the priesthood. But it will be good to keep this novena short and simple.

Day One - Novena for priests:

"Dear children...My children, pray for the shepherds. May your lips be shut to every judgment, because do not forget that my Son has chosen them and only He has the right to judge. Thank you."

Sr. Briege McKenna wrote in her book "Miracles Do Happen" :

One day in the chapel, with all this on my mind, I asked the Lord, "What is wrong with the priesthood."

The answer came back to me, "What do you mean, what's wrong with the priesthood? Have I ever given a gift that is not perfect? What have you done and how have you thanked me for the gift of priesthood that affects your life and all mankind?"

It was then that the Lord revealed to me that I couldn't just sit back and criticize the priesthood. Actually, in the sacrament of holy orders, the priest says yes to God so he can be a priest for me, for you, for every one of us." (Sr. Briege McKenna. "Miracles Do Happen" p. 71)

Dear Family of Mary,

 "Dear children! I rejoice with you and I invite you to prayer. Little children, pray for my intention. Your prayers are necessary to me, through which I desire to bring you closer to God. He is your salvation. God sends me to help you and to guide you towards paradise, which is your goal. Therefore, little children, pray, pray, pray. Thank you for having responded to my call."  (September 25, 1994)

It is becoming very clear that God has sent Our Lady to Medjugorje because we need her very much. We live in a time overwhelmed with sin and disbelief. Everything is stacked against the faith, especially for the young. But Our Lady has been sent to win us back, to draw us under her protective mantle, and to guide us safely into eternity.

St. John Bosco was known for his inspired dreams. He once dreamed of St. Dominic Savio, his great pupil, who died at an early age. In the meeting with St. Dominic, St John Bosco asked him what helped him the most as he approached death:

I said to him, "Tell me what was your greatest consolation when you came to die."

"What do you think?" he answered.

I had several attempts at trying to say what I thought it might be, such as having lived such a pure life, having heaped up so much treasure in Heaven by all his good works, and so on, but to all he shook his head with a smile.

"Tell me, then," I said, quite crestfallen at my failure; "What was it?"

"What helped me most and gave me greatest joy when I was dying," replied Dominic, "Was the loving care and help of the great Mother of God. Tell your sons not to fail to keep close to her while they are alive. But hurry - the time is almost up."

I don't know why, but this account of St. Dominic Savio's words has really struck me. St. John Bosco was a tough guy, who taught his boys to be ascetic, pure, and disciplined. He demanded of himself much sacrifice and self-denial. I did not expect St. Dominic to answer as he did, having been trained by St. John Bosco!

And it also gives added light as to why the Father would send Our Lady in our day. We need her because we do not live heroic and holy lives for the most part. The faith has been so watered down and challenged, the church so weakened...we have little chance to go to heaven by our own merits. And so God has sent Mary to be with us, literally, to help us now and at the hour of our death!! She has been given to us in these days to carry us home to God. And she is doing it.

Let's stay very close to Mother Mary while we live, and we will find ourselves close to her when we die. This is what God is offering us. It is a great gift!

Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children

Dear Family of Mary!

Today we mourn the loss of millions upon millions of lives in the womb through abortion, and the wounding of millions upon millions of men and women who have participated in abortion. The numbers are beyond comprehension now. Truly the past 40 years have been one long holocaust. Many of us may be tempted to lose hope, to lose the joy of life.

But Our Lady has come in the midst of this terrible time, to bring us back to hope, back to joy, back to life. She is a light in our darkness, sent by God to lead us home. Her messages are signposts for us.

I have collected some of Our Lady's messages about life for us to pray over today, as we beseech God for His blessing upon our country and the countries of the world, that we can all come back to our senses and treasure life. May Our Lady's words bring us strength to love, forgive and bless each other!

August 25, 1988

"Dear children! Today I invite you all to rejoice in the life which God gives you. Little children, rejoice in God, the Creator, because He has created you so wonderfully. Pray that your life be joyful thanksgiving which flows out of your heart like a river of joy. Little children, give thanks unceasingly for all that you possess, for each little gift which God has given you, so that a joyful blessing always comes down from God upon your life. Thank you for having responded to my call."

May 25, 1989:

"Dear children! I invite you now to be open to God. See, children, how nature is opening herself and is giving life and fruits. In the same way I invite you to live with God and to surrender completely to him. Children, I am with you and I want to introduce you continuously to the joy of life. I desire that everyone may discover the joy and love which can be found only in God and which only God can give. God doesn't want anything from you only your surrender. Therefore, children, decide seriously for God because everything else passes away. Only God doesn't pass away. Pray to be able to discover the greatness and joy of life which God gives you. Thank you for having responded to my call."

"Dear children! Today I invite you to decide for God once again and to choose Him before everything and above everything, so that He may work miracles in your life and that day by day your life may become joy with Him. Therefore, little children, pray and do not permit satan to work in your life through misunderstandings, the non-understanding and non-acceptance of one another. Choose life and not death of the soul, little children, and in this time when you meditate upon the suffering and death of Jesus I invite you to decide for life which blossomed through the Resurrection, and that your life may be renewed today through conversion that shall lead you to eternal life. Dear Family of Mary!

"Dear children!...I am praying, and you my beloved children also pray, that you may be able to open pure and humble hearts to my Son and to receive the gifts which He has promised you. Then you will be led by the love and strength of my Son. Then, you will be my apostles who everywhere around them spread the fruits of God's love. My Son will act from within you and through you, because you will be "one". My motherly heart yearns for this - for unity of all of my children - through my Son..." (January 2, 2014)

We all want to be led by the love and strength of Jesus. We want to follow Him every day, every moment. St. Faustina gave us a way to recognize whether we are actually being led by Jesus' love. It is a simple measure:

Where there is genuine virtue, there must be sacrifice as well; one's whole life must be a sacrifice. It is only by means of sacrifice that souls can become useful. It is my self-sacrifice which, in my relationship with my neighbor, can give glory to God, but God's love must flow through this sacrifice, because everything is concentrated in this love and takes its value from it. (Diary 1358)

Everything we do takes on value only if God's love is within us and working through us! This is simple. And God's love is most present in our self-sacrifice, because it is in sacrifice that we make a gift of ourselves to others. We give not of our excess in such sacrifices but of our very being. Our Lady longs to spread this kind of love, this giving of the self to others. She knows that it is the key to a new world.

May we be Our Lady's apostles who everywhere around them spread the fruits of God's love!

Give me your hearts!

Dear Family of Mary!

"Dear children! Today I call you to give me your heart so I can change it to be like mine. You are wondering, dear children, why you cannot respond to that which I am seeking from you. You are not able to because you have not given me your heart so I can change it. You are talking but you are not doing. I call on you to do everything that I am telling you. That way I will be with you. Thank you for having responded to my call." (May 15, 1986)

In this early message, Our Lady talks about our consecration, though she doesn't use the word. She describes consecration this way: "I call you to give me your heart so I can change it to be like mine." It helps me to think of consecration this way. Consecration is much more than a simple dedication. Our Lady actually wants to take our hearts and change them to be like hers. That is radical.

What do we give Our Lady when we give her our heart? What is in our heart? Well, our heart is the seat of our person. It is where our soul is experienced. It is in our heart that the faculties of our soul operate. Our intellect and our will and our memory all function in our heart. So all of our desires, hopes, fears, thoughts, intentions, moral decisions, etc. happen in it. Giving our heart to Our Lady is like handing over command central to her. We open ourselves to her counsel and direction, if we give her our heart. She gains access to our wounds, our sad memories, our misguided choices and bondage, our emotions and our desires. She also can participate in our thoughts and hopes, our prayers and our aspirations. What do you suppose she will do with all that?

She will introduce the healing balm of her Immaculate Heart into our wounded and broken hearts. She will administer the blessings and graces of her beautiful heart to our weak hearts, giving them the strength and joy to hope in God and begin to follow Him. She will make our hearts capable of saying "yes" to God and doing His will. She will banish loneliness and despair, giving us the joyful hearts of God's children. She will make us new.

The Gospel for today (Mark 2:18-22) talks about old wine skins. Jesus tells his critics that you cannot put new wine into old wineskins, because they cannot take the strain and will burst. I think our broken hearts are like old wineskins that cannot take the strain of the new life God offers us. Our hearts have to be made new, like new wineskins so that they can respond to the call of God. Our Lady wants to make our hearts into new hearts, new wineskins, so that they can hold the powerful love that God wants to pour into them. Let's give her our hearts so that she can change them!

While there has been much progress in understanding relationships among Christians, and among people of all religious traditions, much remains to be done. St. Peter Faber, a Jesuit priest recently declared a saint by Pope Francis, expressed the attitude needed if we are to grow in unity. Back in the 16th century he wrote, “Remember, if we want to be of help to them (Non-Catholics) we must be careful to regard them with love, to love them in deed and in truth… We have to win their good will so that they will love us and readily confide in us.” May that attitude of love be more present in our lives, so that we can unite and labor together with men and women of different traditions in addressing the many concerns and needs of our world. Heavenly Father, look upon our community of faith which is the Church of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Help us to witness to His love by loving all our fellow creatures without exception. Under the leadership of the Holy Father and the Bishops keep us faithful to Christ’s mission of calling all men and women to Your service so that there may be “one fold and one shepherd.” We ask this through Christ, our Lord. We've also begun LIVE streaming from Medjugorje EVERY DAY a half hour of Silent Prayer, 11:30am to 12:00 Noon EST (5:30pm to 6:00pm Medjugorje time) which includes the time of Our Lady's apparition (11:40 EST) and ends with the ringing of the bells of St. James signaling the prayer of the Angelus!

"Do not lose hope because God loves His creatures. He desires to save you, one by one, through my coming here," (3/25/03). MARY TV wants to increase LIVE streaming EVERDAY from Medjugorje, offering a LIVE connection to Mary's presence there!  

We're grateful to those who make this possible through their prayers and donations. Many of you, with limited income, are making the sacrifice of sending MARY TV $10 or $25 each month. Some of you send $5 and others $50 per month....

Four hundred and thirty people (430) donated to Mary TV last year. If we could double that number this year to 860 donors - MARY TV could finish our TV studios in Medjugorje and move on to the next level of putting at Our Lady's service modern communication technologies to bring her presence in Medjugorje - and her school in Medjugorje - to the world.

I'm asking everyone who receives this email....if you're not doing so already, to start sending a monthly donation - no matter how small - to Mary TV!
