33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time

It’s never been easy to be a Christian.  Not for the Apostles who traveled far and wide to teach others about Jesus, the Messiah and Son of God, and not for us.  We hear Paul’s admonitions to the Thessalonians, reminding them to fulfill their responsibilities not only through the words of life they shared with others, but also through their good example.  Don’t be a burden to the new Christians, he insisted, and don’t be busy-bodies.

Jesus let his followers know in no uncertain terms that their everyday lives could be difficult, even dangerous.  But those who believe in Jesus will share in His eternal life, blessed by His ultimate promise of protection: “not a hair on your head will be destroyed.”

We, too, can spread the good word and offer those around us an example of a Christian life well-lived.  Whatever the cost, we know the reward.

Suggested missionary action: Start reading a book about the Apostles’ journeys, or learn more about today’s missionaries.

Please no anonymous comments. I require at least some way for people to address each other personally and courteously. Having some name or handle helps.
