Second Sunday of Advent

Link to Readings

The Old Testament readings recall the longing of the Jewish nation for their promised Messiah. The New Testament readings reveal Jesus Christ as our Savior and that He belongs to all men, women and children everywhere.

Yet, at times, we, the followers of Christ, may be reluctant to repent, just like the people to whom John the Baptist preached. Perhaps we dislike change and so hesitate to turn away from anything that interferes with our relationship with God. “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!” Neither sin nor repentance are comfortable words for us. But saying “Yes” to God’s gifts of faith, hope and love, as well as to His promise of salvation, means living according to His word, His plan for our true welfare – and encouraging all God’s children to act the same.

Suggested missionary action: Think about what it means to live as a real follower of Jesus Christ, and how you can support others in doing so. In that way, we can all draw closer to God.

Please no anonymous comments. I require at least some way for people to address each other personally and courteously. Having some name or handle helps.
