Common for this time of year, the opulent Christmas lights and glamorous decorations overshadow the true reason for the holiday and the beautiful churches that celebrate it. We forget that visiting churches closest to home can provide the same aesthetic pleasure that we hunt for when schlepping into the city to see the Rockefeller Christmas Tree.
Christmas is the best time for anyone who is Catholic to renew his or her faith considering God becomes very real this time of year. By entering one of the many beautiful churches on Long Island, Catholics can be reminded of their faith as they are dually surrounded by beauty.
This season, share the beauty of a Long Island Christmas by visiting one of the many stunning churches of Long Island.

We lived on Long Island for about 10 years and I had a trucking route there, so I saw many of these beautiful churches myself. There are also some beautiful shrines on L.I. too. And some monasteries like the Monfort Fathers in Bayshore. I;ve been on retreat there. One of my favorite sacred places is the seminary in Huntington, overlooking the sound. We attended a deacon retreat there one year. The chapel is gorgeous! What a great place to pray!
