Dear Family of Mary!

"Dear children, you are gathering around me, you are seeking your way, you are seeking, you are seeking the truth but are forgetting what is the most important, you are forgetting to pray properly. Your lips pronounce countless words, but your spirit does not feel anything. Wandering in darkness, you even imagine God himself according to yourselves, and not such as he really is in his love. Dear children, proper prayer comes from the depth of your heart, from your suffering, from your joy, from your seeking the forgiveness of sins. This is the way to come to know the right God, and by that also yourselves, because you are created according to him. Prayer will bring you to the fulfillment of my desire, of my mission here with you, to the unity of God's family. Thank you."

Our Lady is so profound.  "Dear children, proper prayer comes from the depth of your heart, from your suffering, from your joy, from your seeking the forgiveness of sins."

She tells us that we can only meet with God in prayer at the deepest point, where we suffer, desire, realize our sinfulness, and long for Him as our true love.  True prayer happens only in that place of ultimate honesty.

In the Magnificat for today, the meditation quotes Erasmo Leiva-Merikakis.  He is commenting on the healings that happened when the sick touched the tassel of Jesus' cloak (See Mark 6:53-56, the gospel for today).  He writes:

"The faith that saves, then, is the unity or embrace that results from God's desire and power to save us meeting our own desire and need to be saved by him.  Only those are saved who want to be saved, those who direct their steps toward the One who alone can work this miracle - and salvation is, after all, the chief of God's miracles, the only one that ultimately matters, and every specific healing is but a sign of the miracle of salvation." (Magnificat, February 2011, p. 109)

It is in that place, where we want to be saved because we know that we need to be saved and that we can't handle life ourselves, that we can pray properly!  It is there that our emotions, our desires, our joys, and our love are all united in the truth.  There we can meet God!  There we can touch the tassel of Jesus' cloak and be healed.

Finding that place of honesty takes time.  It takes reflection and silence.  It takes trust and openness.  It takes practice - practicing the presence of God.  Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is the best place for such prayer.  In the presence of Jesus, we quickly find honesty.  He is the very best listener, the very best mirror, the very best guide to our heart. Jesus, the One who loves us, waits to bring us to that place of need and hope and joy.

In Jesus and Mary!
