The President of the United States Catholic Bishops' Conference urges Catholics to pray for peace in the Holy Land and announces Day of Prayer for Peace Sunday 25 November
Washington (Agenzia Fides) - Cardinal Francis George, Archbishop of Chicago and newly elected president of the United States Catholic Bishops' Conference, has asked all Catholics to pray for peace in the Holy Land. The appeal was made in view of an International Peace Conference in Annapolis on Tuesday 27 November, for a just peace between Israelis and Palestinians. "For decades our Bishops' Conference has worked and prayed for peace in the Holy Land. In recent years we have joined Jewish, Christian and Muslim religious leaders in an international interreligious initiative for peace in the Middle East to find a solution to the conflict between the two peoples". said Cardinal George.
As part of this united effort the president of the US Bishops' Conference has asked Catholics in every parish in the United States to offer special prayers for peace in the Middle East this Sunday 25 November. However he says it will be necessary to pray all this week and to continue because the path to a just and lasting peace is still long.
