SCRIPTURE COMMENTARY #32

And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us (and we saw his glory, the glory as it were of the only begotten of the Father), full of grace and truth. (John 1:14)

THE CHRISTMAS TREE represents Jesus Christ, who is the true tree of life in the newly restored paradise. He that eateth of this tree shall live. The burning tapers on the tree are meant to show that Christ is the light of the world, "full of grace and truth." The various fruits and sweets hanging on the branches symbolize the rich gifts and blessings brought by Jesus Christ to the children of men. The latter too are accostomed to give presents to each other, because on this day God has given to the world His only Begotten Son and with Him everything else.
