By "Anne," A Lay Apostle
I see that Jesus loves His priests most tenderly. His plan for renewal rests in the hearts of His priests.
If Jesus Christ wills a renewal for the world, and He does, a renewal will occur. Each of us must determine our individual role in the renewal with a great determination to serve to the fullest possible extent, thereby maximizing the Lord's reach through our individual commitment.
When we are beginning to serve to a fuller extent, giving the Lord a more total "yes", we will feel stretched. Jesus calls us to surpass our intended line of service and step out into the unknown with Him. There is often a temptation to remain safely within what is comfortable for us but this is not good and we should be alert to this natural human proclivity. We will be comfortable in heaven for eternity, after all. We must accept some discomfort during our time on earth.
I would urge priests to rejoice in God's presence. Rejoice in God's plan. Each priest must strive to rejoice in God's choosing of him for such glorious service to the kingdom, even though that service is often cloaked in the most humble of tasks. The call to rejoicing is an imperative for priests because only through rejoicing can they proclaim Christ with any accuracy.
Some might question whether or not rejoicing is possible in a time when the Church is suffering so badly in many areas. But Christ has not abandoned His Church. Christ is truly present in each one of us who loves Him. Heaven has not changed. There is great rejoicing in heaven and there is great rejoicing on earth by anyone who is connected to the Lord in his soul.
