Dear Family of Mary!

"Dear children; Today I call you to unity (communion) in Jesus, my Son. My motherly heart prays that you may comprehend that you are God's family. Through the spiritual freedom of will, which the Heavenly Father has given you, you are called to become cognizant (to come to the knowledge) of the truth, the good or the evil. May prayer and fasting open your hearts and help you to discover the Heavenly Father through my Son. In discovering the Father, your life will be directed to carrying out of God's will and the realization of God's family, in the way that my Son desires (wishes). I will not leave you alone on this path. Thank you."  (January 2, 2011)

"May prayer and fasting open your hearts and help you to discover the Heavenly Father through my Son."  If we remember our discussion yesterday about spiritual ultrasounds, it would seem that prayer and fasting are like the ultrasound machine!  It is through prayer and fasting, Our Lady says, that we will encounter the Heavenly Father that we don't see right now!  It is prayer and fasting that make the spiritual connection between God and us, revealing to us the wonderful loving presence of the Father and the Son.

To draw out the analogy, the ultrasound machine has a device that sends out sound waves that penetrate the mother's body and bounce off of the little one within.  Those sound waves return to the device and present a pattern for the computer that outlines the baby's features.  It is really amazing to see!  In prayer we could say that we send out our own sound waves, and wait to receive them as they bounce back to us.  Those sound waves are our prayers.  And the return waves carry with them the loving countenance of our Father, who is looking at us with such love.  Through prayer we begin to see the loving gaze of God, to feel His love as it radiates towards us.

Prayer is much more than an ultrasound machine.  But the analogy does bring some comfort for us!  God wants us to encounter Him in prayer.  He does want us to glimpse His outline, to capture His loving glance, to become aware of us presence.  We have to send out our sound waves and wait for them to return.  We have to give time to prayer, to our search for God.  We have to grow silent within so that we detect the returning waves of love, for they may be very soft and gentle.  But if we wait and listen, we will detect them!  God is very near and waiting to be discovered.

Of course, fasting is part of this process because fasting helps us to become quiet and capable of receiving.  To fast with love helps us to seek God with all our heart!  Thanks be to God for this little image.  Maybe it will help us to return to prayer with renewed anticipation!  Wouldn't it be wonderful to glimpse Jesus and His Father!!
