The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Dear Family of Mary!

Today we celebrate the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary! It is the day in the Church calendar that is set aside to remember the incredible grace that was given to the world in the person of Mary. She was conceived without sin, and at her birth, continued to live without sin, by a special grace from the Father, won for her by Jesus. Her birth is a sign for all the world of the coming of the Savior. She is the one prepared to be His mother! Wow! Imagine how the Holy Spirit must have hovered over Our Lady!

I asked Our Lady to show me what she would like as a gift today. Being the forgetful child that I am I had forgotten to prepare for this beautiful feast day. And so in a last-ditch effort, I asked the Mother to give me a hint on what kind of gift she would like. Then I opened my message book, and this is the message I read:

"Dear children! At this time, I call you all to pray for my intentions. Especially, little children, pray for those who have not yet come to know the love of God and do not seek God the Savior. You, little children, be my extended hands and by your example draw them closer to my Heart and the Heart of my Son. God will reward you with graces and every blessing. Thank you for having responded to my call."

Wouldn't you know it! Our Lady asked me to pray for her intentions, especially for her children who are not close to her or Jesus. That is what she wants as a present today! She wants me to be her extended hands, hands that will reach out and bless her lost children, hands that will pray for them, hands that will serve them with love, hands that will embrace them and include them in the family of God. She wants me to be an example of her love! This is a big present!

What a mother we have. Look at what is on her heart! She is longing for her lost children. She wants them to come back to her, to be united to the family again. She has a magnificent heart. It is so similar to her Son's Heart. They are both magnificent!

I know I can't do all that she asks in one day but I can begin, one prayer at a time, one act of kindness, one little sacrifice offered with love...I can start today.

Dearest Mother, Happy Feast Day! We love you so much!

In Jesus and Mary!
