“For we are God’s co-workers; you are God’s field, God’s building.” 1 Cor. 3:9 | September 3, 2011 Labor Day Weekend Summer comes to an end. School begins, and summer vacations fade. Labor Day weekend reminds us that once again it is time to commit ourselves to the everyday world of work. Those who are employed take time to thank God for their work. All unemployed or employed pray that everyone can find meaningful labor. In creating the world, God labored for six days and then on the seventh day God rested. In the thought of St. Ignatius, God continues even to this day to labor in the world: “Consider how God works and labors for me in all creatures upon the face of the earth…” We also add above the words of St. Paul that we are highly privileged to be God’s co-workers! | Lord God, a lot of the work I have to do is dull. Sometimes I’m so bored, and sometimes I’m depressed. Sometimes I hate work. And then I remember two things. I remember the carpenter shop at Nazareth. That can’t always have been all joy and sunshine. So I know that you understand, and I am grateful. I remember too that my work is linked through the work of others to the work of all men and women. They depend on me and I depend on them. Lord, keep me faithful. Amen. Rev. Peter Schineller, S.J., CMMB Board of Directors | | | | |
