St. Simon and St. Jude, Apostles
Dear Family of Mary!
"Dear children! Today I call you to open yourselves to prayer. Prayer works miracles in you and through you. Therefore, little children, in the simplicity of heart seek of the Most High to give you the strength to be God's children and for Satan not to shake you like the wind shakes the branches. Little children, decide for God anew and seek only His will - and then you will find joy and peace in Him. Thank you for having responded to my call." (October 25, 2013)
Our Lady calls us to open
ourselves to prayer. She has used the word "open" over 100 times in her
messages. Obviously, openness is something she values; it is something
that she considers indispensable for the spiritual life.
To open ourselves to prayer,
to open ourselves to God takes effort. It is not something God can do
for us. We must choose to open our hearts to prayer, to the Lord. We
must work at it. Our openness to God is really an expression of our
faith, our hope and our love (the three virtues that God can infuse in
our hearts, but which we must choose to act on). When we open to God, we
are saying:
1. I believe in you, Lord. I
believe You are here with me, that You love me, and that You will the
good for me. You have saved me through Jesus' passion and death, and You
are waiting for me to let You come into my life with that saving love
and change me.
2. I put my hope in you,
Lord. I see that life is hard, that I am sinful, that the world is bent
towards evil, and that I fail a hundred times a day. But I am clinging
to the hope that You have set before me, the hope that says that all
will be well. Your hope leads me like a light in the darkness, always
guiding me towards life.
3. I accept your love, Lord.
I see with the eyes of my heart that You love me. You have stopped at
nothing to find me and rescue me from death. Your love for me is
infinite. Your love translates into mercy, the mercy that can forgive
anything. And so I place my trust in that mercy, that love, and I will
now open the doors of my heart, of my inner self to You, so that You can
come into my life, into every part of my life, and take possession of
me. I am safe in Your hands. I am safe in Your embrace. I am safe in
Your presence. Come in.
This process of choosing to
open ourselves to God happens in prayer. It is only in prayer that we
can make such a choice because that is when we are talking to God and we
can invite Him in. It may just be a fleeting prayer, said on the run,
in an emergency, when the need is great. Or it can be a prayer that
happens during hours of adoration, during the Rosary, during Holy Mass
or Confession. It doesn't matter where that prayer takes place, it only
matters that we find ourselves ready to open to God, to His presence, to
His love, and then we say "yes". We let God in. We turn our face
towards Him, and allow Him to have full access to us. We hide nothing
from Him. And we relax and let ourselves be completely known by Him.
Our Lady gave a message that describes this kind of encounter in prayer, when we open ourselves to God:
"Dear children! Once again I desire to call you to prayer. When you pray you are much more beautiful, like flowers, which after the snow, show all their beauty and all their colors become indescribable. So also you, dear children, after prayer show before God all so much more what is beautiful and are beloved by Him. Therefore, dear children, pray and open your inner self to the Lord so that He makes of you a harmonious and beautiful flower for Paradise. Thank you for having responded to my call." (December 18, 1986)
The more open we are to God,
the more beautiful we will be. The more we open to His love, the more
harmonious our life will be, for His love will sing through us like a
song of joy. The more we open our inner selves to God, the more we will
experience Paradise and share it with others. Heaven will radiate from
within us, and others will find rest and peace in us. This is how we
will help to spread the Gospel, through our openness to God.
In Jesus, Mary and Joseph!
