Dear Family of Mary!
Our Lady has come to
Medjugorje under the title "Queen of Peace." This title sums up Our
Lady's purpose in coming to us in these days. She wants to establish
true peace in the hearts of her children, a peace that will save them
and save others. We may have a very shallow understanding of what peace
really means. Usually we think of peace as the absence of conflict, or
quietness and stillness. We may think of peace as just being left alone!
But peace is much deeper than that.
The Hebrew word for peace is shalom. I looked up the meaning of shalom and found this simple description of the word:
Hebrew
words go beyond their spoken pronunciation. Each Hebrew word conveys
feeling, intent and emotion. Shalom is more than just simply peace; it
is a complete peace. It is a feeling of contentment, completeness,
wholeness, well-being and harmony.
According
to Strong's Concordance 7965 Shalom means completeness, wholeness,
health, peace, welfare, safety, soundness, tranquility, prosperity,
perfectness, fullness, rest, harmony, the absence of agitation or
discord. Shalom comes from the root verb shalom meaning to be complete,
perfect and full. ( http://www.therefinersfire. org/meaning_of_shalom.htm )
Fullness is the word that
Denis always uses for the deeper meaning of shalom. Fullness implies
that we have everything, that we need nothing. I believe that peace is
that state of being filled, filled by God. Our Lady once said: "The important thing is to pray to the Holy Spirit, so that He may descend on you. When one has Him, one has everything..." Friday, October 21, 1983. Could
it be that when we are filled with the Holy Spirit, we are at peace? I
believe it is that fullness, that lack for nothing that is peace. But it
is not a material peace, it is a peace that passes understanding. It is
the peace in which the person is completely in the hands of God and so
has no fear or anxiety for the future, because all is in the hands of
our loving God.
Our Lady has come to
bring us that fullness, that shalom, which God alone can give. Here are
some messages she has given about peace:
Wednesday, January 18, 1984
"I wish to engrave in every heart
the sign of love. If you love all mankind, then there is peace in you.
If you are at peace with all men, it is the kingdom of love."
Thursday, March 15, 1984
"Dear children, pray! All agitation comes from satan. Your prayer should lead to peace."
"Dear children, pray! All agitation comes from satan. Your prayer should lead to peace."
Sometime in October 1984
The
most important [thing] in spiritual life is to ask for the gift of the
Holy Spirit. When the Holy Spirit comes, then peace will be established.
When that occurs, everything changes around you. Things will change."
June 25, 1987
"Dear
children! Today I thank you and I want to invite you all to God's
peace. I want each one of you to experience in your heart that peace
which God gives. I want to bless you all today. I am blessing you with
God's blessing and I beseech you, dear children, to follow and to live
my way. I love you, dear children, and so not even counting the number
of times, I go on calling you and I thank you for all that you are doing
for my intentions. I beg you, help me to present you to God and to save
you. Thank you for having responded to my call."
December 25, 1988
"Dear
children! I call you to peace. Live it in your heart and all around
you, so that all will know peace, peace that does not come from you but
from God. Little children, today is a great day. Rejoice with me.
Glorify the Nativity of Jesus through the peace that I give you. It is
for this peace that I have come as your Mother, Queen of Peace. Today I
give you my special blessing. Bring it to all creation, so that all
creation will know peace. Thank you for having responded to my call."
As we join Pope Francis this
week in the consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, may we open
our hearts to the peace God alone can give. May we be filled with the
Holy Spirit, filled with the love of God. May our hearts be full,
complete, whole, lacking no good thing, because we have God. Then and
only then, we will be able to give the love, the peace, the shalom of
God to others. Then, and only then, will peace come to the world. Our
Lady, Queen of Peace, is moving in these days to establish peace, true
shalom, in the hearts of men!
In Jesus, Mary and Joseph!
