A mother and her children in Medjugorje
A mother, and her children praying outside St. James Church in Medjugorje, this past June 25 anniversary. Our Lady in Medjugorje has often spoken about the family. Her desire is that every family be active in prayer. Our Lady said on May 1, 1986:

“…Dear children, let every family be active in prayer for I wish that the fruits in the family be seen one day…”

Jakov, one of the six Medjugorje visionaries, shared some thoughts on family prayer during one of his talks to the pilgrims here in Medjugorje, in April 2014:

“Our Lady has been inviting us to pray in our own families, to place God in the first place in our families. Our Lady said that nothing can unite your family more than the prayers said together. We have to find time for prayer in our families. We have to be an example to our children. We have to pray with our children. I’m also a father, and I have three children. I accepted each one of my children as a gift from God, but I also understood that they are my responsibility. I often remember the words of the late Father Slavko, when he said, you parents, you parents are those who have to give roots to your children when they are small. He added, even one day if they distance themselves from God, they will return, they will come back because of that little bit that you gave them when they were small, will forever remain in their hearts. What is the most beautiful thing for a family is to see when your child is praying and that your child is happy praying. When you as a parent did not have to force them to pray, but they come to you and say when will we pray, shall we pray. Everyday, when I pray with my family, I feel that amazing joy because in those moments you can feel the unity of the family.”

Dear Family of Mary!

"Dear children, I, the mother of all of you gathered here and the mother of the entire world, am blessing you with a motherly blessing and call you to set out on the way of humility. That way leads to the coming to know the love of my Son. My Son is almighty, He is in everything. If you, my children, do not become cognizant of this, then darkness/blindness rule in your soul. Only humility can heal you. My children, I always lived humbly, courageously and in hope. I knew, I became cognizant that God is in us and we are in God. I am asking the same of you. I desire for all of you to be with me in eternity, because you are a part of me. I will help you on your way. My love will envelop you like a mantle and make of you apostles of my light - of God's light. With the love that comes forth from humility you will bring light to where darkness/blindness rule. You will be bringing my Son who is the light of the world. I am always alongside your shepherds and I pray that they may always be an example of humility for you. Thank you." (July 2, 2014)

"Only humility can heal you."

If darkness rules in our souls, we need to be healed. If our hearts are blinded, we need to be healed. Blind hearts cannot see what is actually happening in their lives. They cannot perceive the graces being offered to them. They do not understand what makes for peace, or joy, or hope or even life. Blind hearts can only hear their own voice, that sad and forlorn voice that constantly thinks only of itself. Darkened souls are doomed to stay in their sadness and sinfulness because they cannot see any alternative. There is only more of the same, day after day. The blindness and darkness are the effects of pride. Pride forces the eyes of the heart to turn inward, where there is no light, because the proud do not let God in. They instead want to be God.

"Only humility can heal you."

If we find darkness in our souls we should be alarmed. Such darkness and blindness are signs that we have put God in second place in our lives and we have somehow put ourselves in first place. This is pride. We have forgotten that God made us and is in control of the entire universe. We have fallen for the lie so skillfully sown in our hearts that we have to be God and be in control. And we have taken the eyes of our hearts off of our Savior and turned them inward, to our own dark little world.

"Only humility can heal you."

But if this is the case, there is a way out. Our Lady is showing us the way through her messages which only draw us into her embrace so that we can follow her Son. "Dear children, I, the mother of all of you gathered here and the mother of the entire world, am blessing you with a motherly blessing and call you to set out on the way of humility. That way leads to the coming to know the love of my Son. My Son is almighty, He is in everything." Mother Mary wants to show us her Son, who is the Light of the World, and will bring light into our own little worlds, our broken hearts, our darkened souls. Our Lady wants to lead us into the reality that Jesus is almighty, Jesus is in everything, and Jesus is Lord. This is the antidote to pride. This is the Light that shatters the darkness. This is the way to joy!

"Only humility can heal you."

But the one thing in our power is to choose. We must choose to recognize Jesus as our Lord, to recognize that we are NOT God, and that we sin if ever we put ourselves in that place. If we only choose to recognize, to be cognizant, that we are creatures who have a good and loving Creator, we will be on our way to freedom and peace. Let us always choose to follow Mary to her Son, and to fall down in worship of Him. He is our Lord!

In Jesus, Mary and Joseph!

"Hi Joe, I am still feeling MASSIVELY unwell. I was finally diagnosed with lyme a few months ago. It is lambasting me second by second. I am in deep, deep neurological anguish, very deep. My physician has now put me under the care of
a naturopath as well, which is costing me around $500.00 a month out of pocket. Healing from lyme is a dreadfully long and difficult and uncertain journey. I am emailing you to please keep praying. And please have people pour on the prayers. The lyme and treatment are killing me. The suffering is indescribably deep. I am in utter, utter anguish and I feel as though I literally need a miracle Joe. God bless you." Fr. Martin

Please pray for Father Martin today, he is so sick and cannot function, not even to celebrate Mass for the faithful.

Spiritual Gems-Why Suffering and Sacrifice Take Time But Commit Now-July 5, 2014

Why Suffering and Sacrifice Take Time, But Commit Now

God can only do us good, and suffering is the greatest giving of one self when done out of love.  The Lord showed us by example this love and He so wants us to imitate Him.   Our attitude must be a perpetual fiat,  a total abandon
Great suffering Jesus!
Great suffering of Jesus! (Photo credit: quinet)
ment to God's Will.....so that He may do what He wishes with us and for us in time and eternity.  Have we ever thought about the magnitude of the eternal reward of imitating Jesus in suffering out of love?  Have we ever really meditated on how many souls we can save with His help? It is not easy to come to love suffering and sacrifice, especially sacrifice done daily out of love for God,  but when we ask for God's grace to imitate Him in suffering, how could He deny this request?

Last night, July 3, 2014, the Community of Caritas gathered in prayer in the Field of Apparitions, praying for the vigil of July 4, for our nation. It was a quiet and beautiful evening, as the Community remnisced of the past years when Our Lady was with us in Her apparitions, accepting our prayers for our nation.

Bishop Augustine
While the Community prays the Rosary, little Bishop Augustine, the founder's grandson, plays peacefully in the grass. Hay bales are in the distance. This image speaks of a 'way of life', foundationed by Our Lady. Our Lady of Medjugorje just said on July 2, 2014:

“...you are a part of me. I will help you on your way. My love will envelop you like a mantle...”

It is for his future and other's - those seeking to establish a new way of life, particularily those implementing They Fired the First Shot 2012 - it is for them that we pray, knowing that what our nation and world must go through to come back to God will not be pleasant, but will be necessary to purify the world. It is our prayer that we, along with Little Bishop and those who will come after, will experience the time of peace, promised by Our Lady.

Our Lady in the Field of Apparitions

Our Lady's statue in the Field of Apparitions, July 3, 2014, as the moon rises in the distance. A Friend of Medjugorje said during yesterday's Mejanomics broadcast:

"[speaking to those in other nations]... your nation is at risk is the United States falls. satan hates this country. We've given it to Our Lady in Her presence through the Medjugorje apparitions, on July 3 and July 4 for several years, when She's appeared to Marija, and Our Lady accepted it [the consecrations]..."

Knowing the acceptance by Our Lady of the Consecrations of July 3 and 4 for the years 2008, 2009, 2012, and 2013 is a great consolation, not only for the United States, but for the world. As the last bastion of liberty in the world, we ask every nation to join us in prayer today, July 4, the feast of the birth of the United States for it's healing, which by doing so, will spread to the whole world. Pray today for our nation, and in doing so you will be praying for the world's future.

There is so much to meditate on in this message. Thank the Lord, we have some time to chew on it! But I would like to just mention one thing today. Our Lady used that unusual word (at least in English) that many seem to struggle with, the word "cognizant."

Cognizant is a big word for "to be aware of" or "to understand" or " to comprehend". The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines it this way: "Cognizant : knowledgeable of something especially through personal experience; also:  to be mindful." I like this idea. To know something through personal experience means that we have encountered the thing, we have experienced it and so it is not just an idea but something real for us. When we experience something, we don't forget it, we are mindful of it.

Our Lady said to us: "My Son is almighty, He is in everything. If you, my children, do not become cognizant of this, then darkness/blindness rule in your soul."

We could substitute the Merriam-Webster definition and read it this way: My Son is almighty, He is everything. If you, my children, do not become knowledgeable, especially through your personal experience, if you do not become mindful of this, then darkness/blindness rule in your soul."

What does this mean? If we don't live out of the deep understanding (that we have received through our experience of Jesus in prayer) that Jesus is God, Jesus is all in all, then we will live out of a darkness or blindness of our soul, living as if He is not all in all. There is no middle ground. Either Jesus is God and all in all or He is not. So to be cognizant means to really get it!! When we are cognizant of Jesus as Lord, we see everything differently. We see everything as under His Lordship, and created and directed by Him. We "see" everything in the Light of Jesus. Everything makes sense because of Him.

So Our Lady is telling us that we need to have a personal experience of Jesus as our God, our All in All, so that we always live out of that experience, that cognition. We KNOW He is everything. And that makes everything His. What peace it gives us when we truly understand at the deepest level that Jesus is God, Lord, Creator, King, Savior, Brother, and Friend. But we can only truly know this through encountering Jesus in prayer and the sacraments. That is how we experience Him and come to KNOW Him.

This weekend, maybe we can spend some time in prayer, maybe out in nature, or at Church with the Blessed Sacrament, just asking the Lord to reveal Himself to us in His fullness as God, as Creator, as Almighty, and as Everything.

We want to know You, Jesus. We want to live out of a deep understanding of Who you are. Come and reveal Yourself to us!

In Jesus, Mary and Joseph!

Ten Tricky Tactics of the Tempter

Tribulation Times
July 4, 2014

(Eph 6:10-12) Finally, brethren, be strengthened in the Lord and in the might of his power. Put you on the armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the deceits of the devil. For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood; but against principalities and powers, against the rulers of the world of this darkness, against the spirits of wickedness in the high places.

CRISIS MAGAZINE: On Being and Staying Catholic in the Modern World

CHAPLAIN'S CORNER: Saint Michael, patron saint of the airborne, military by Army Chaplain (Capt.) Paul Lynn

A few years back, I was roaming through the Barnes and Noble bookstore and stumbled across a volume which caught my attention.

Titled "The Sword of St. Michael: The 82nd Airborne Division in World War II," it opens with a quote from John Milton's book, Paradise Lost:

"... but the Sword
Of Michael from the Armorie of God
Was giv'n him tempered so, that neither keen
Nor solid might resist the edge: it met
The sword of Satan with steep force to smite
Descending, in half cut sheere, nor staid,
But with swift wheele reverse, deep entering shar'd
All his right side; then Satan knew first pain ..."

The highly spiritual and religious quote cited above can spark a chill down one's spine.

This is the battle between good and evil crafted in poetic fashion.

But, what is the origin of this fierce spiritual warrior, Saint Michael, the patron of the airborne?

Three major religions, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam all cite Michael as a great figure to be revered.

He's mentioned in the Hebrew Bible, the Christian New Testament, and the Quran.
The name Michael means "Who is like God?" in Hebrew.

The ultimate answer to his name is "no one."

The Bible records Michael's name with the title, archangel, which means "chief angel."
He is one of the chief angels of the heavenly army doing God's bidding in the fight against spiritual evil.

The Catholic Church has listed an additional title - saint, meaning holy one.

So, what is the historical link between Saint Michael and the military community?

During medieval times the Catholic Church chose Michael to be the patron of the military.

As a patron saint, he was an advocate and intercessor to God on behalf of the military.

According to the holy texts, there is a continuous spiritual war between good and evil going on, and it is fleshed out on the battlefield in both heaven and earth.

This spiritual battle is described in the Apostle Paul's Letter to the Church at Ephesus.

In Ephesians 6:10, he wrote, "For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, and against the authorities, and against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places."

Christian religious texts say there is a relationship between our prayers to God, the archangel Michael's fight in the heavenly areas, and how our lives are affected on earth.
To say it another way, there is a correlation between a service member's prayers and Michael's heavenly fight against evil.

Our prayers fuel Michael's fight, which in turn provides us with protection and assistance.

One can easily see why Saint Michael would be adopted as the patron of the airborne paratrooper in World War II.

There was great evil that needed to be conquered, both in Europe and in the Pacific.

Saint Michael is a symbol for us as a spiritual warrior, who stands ready to fight on behalf of the good.

He is, in a sense, a captivating and encouraging symbol.

For many who believe, we are drawn to God through Michael as a symbol of protection and assistance in the midst of a dangerous employment.

We take great comfort that God has placed such an advocate on the side of the good to help us succeed.

This is the faith we bring to the fight.

From Mark Mallett: The Foundation of Faith

The Foundation of Faith

THERE is plenty happening in our world today to shake the faith of believers. Indeed, it is becoming increasingly difficult to find souls who are remaining steadfast in their Christian faith without compromise, without giving up, without caving in to the pressures and temptations of the world. But this raises a question: just what exactly is my faith to be in? The Church? Mary? The Sacraments…?

Dear Family of Mary!

"Dear children! The Most High is giving me the grace that I can still be with you and to lead you in prayer towards the way of peace. Your heart and soul thirst for peace and love, for God and His joy. Therefore, little children, pray, pray, pray and in prayer you will discover the wisdom of living. I bless you all and intercede for each of you before my Son Jesus. Thank you for having responded to my call." (June 25, 2014)

Well, yesterday's Gospel was about Jesus in the boat in the big storm at sea. And last night we had a very big storm and lost our power. It may be out for days. I can identify with the apostles in the boat!!!

I want to quote Michael's closing words for the Daily Rosary for July 1, as they were very inspired and really fit with the June 25 message about "the wisdom of living":

I remember what a priest in Medjugorje said at Mass one day. He said that every choice we make for the will of God or against the will of God goes out like ripples throughout all of time and throughout the rest of the world and affects everyone. And he said that the visionaries asked Our Lady what happens at the moment of death and she said that you see in an instant all the decisions you made for the will of God or against the will of God and how they went out and affected the rest of the world. We see in the Annunciation the moment when Our Lady is saying "Yes" to God and how those ripples went out from that to all eternity!

So the idea that when we try to be holy we can't just "be" good fruit. Fruit is planted and then it grows and is tended and then it bears fruit. So to be holy, like with morality and ethics, those are things to cling to as you begin the process of planting. The Church teaches that homosexuality is disordered and so if you have same sex attractions, you need to make peace with who you are. I accept the way I am, good things and bad things within me, but I cling to morality because the Church holds the truth. Jesus revealed God as He is, fully. So the Church has the truth. So I cling to morality, though I accept myself as I am, and I begin the path of planting good seed.

We are a product of all those seeds planted, even the generational seeds planted. Those seeds are the decisions for the will of God and against the will of God that go out like ripples throughout the whole world. You bear fruit from all of that. You can't just become good fruit.

Denis interjected, "I am so disordered and I can't just become ordered. I live with this..."

Mike: I live with all the bad decisions against the will of God from all my ancestors even. So through prayer and morality, you can adopt behavior, but behavior is not fulfilled. (Like Jesus said He was the fulfillment of the law.) You fulfill the will of God when the seeds have been planted, tended and have grown so to bear good fruit...

It is through suffering that you get all tilled up and you can begin to plant. You begin a life of prayer, you realize how much you need God, and you start the process of planting. It is the same with our children, when we are always in the reactionary mode so when the kids are being bad and you react against it. You think you need to punish. Whereas what God has been showing me, especially on this last pilgrimage, instead of being in the reactionary mode which is how satan works - You knock someone over, they come back and knock you over - so you blow about like branches in the wind -  instead you begin to plant. You start to plant goodness and that goodness will start to bear fruit. Like you start showing more love, you go out one on one instead of clobbering them with punishment. You start to plant seeds that will bear fruit next week. The bad behavior that is happening right now is the bad fruit of something that happened a week or two ago. So instead of being branches blowing in the wind, which is a never ending cycle, and the devil's playground, you become a planter, an investor.

The business community knows about planting. They tell you that you want their product, and that seed will bear fruit. Even the way you think about somebody can plant a seed. If you think someone is annoying, and you think it over and over, you plant that seed and that is what will be manifest later. What is invisible now will be seen later, what is in the darkness will come to light. So Our Lady keeps trying to bring us back to planting the right seeds. Not the news, or movies, or whatever, but instead reading scripture, praying the rosary, going to Mass... you plant seeds that will become physically manifest, you will move from the seed under the soil to a living plant. I am a planter, not a reactor.

Thanks Mike, for those inspiring words. It makes a lot of sense. May we all become planters for the future. May we plant peace, love, joy, hope, faith, trust, prayer, truth, and all the good things of God!

In Jesus, Mary and Joseph!

[July 2014] Monthly Message from Anne, a lay apostle

Direction for Our Times

We continue our cycle of monthly messages for 2014 with the message from July 1, 2006 for our prayer groups and personal reflection.

July 1, 2006

Jesus

Be at peace, little children of God. I am with you. Do not think that you are orphans, abandoned to a world which lacks God’s love. I seek to bring love into the world in a continuous stream. How My little apostles delight Me with their willingness to allow Me to use them for this purpose. I work without pause in each soul who welcomes Me. You may be asleep, or at rest in another way and I am busy at work in your soul, preparing great gifts for your brothers and sisters who do not know Me. I am tireless. I am determined. I am forming many saints who will move up the mountain of holiness with speed in order to serve Me more completely. Do you wish to be one of these saints? Of course you do. We will work together, you and I, to move you more fully into My will. How I guard My little apostles. How I surround them with My protection. I watch your life closely so that every experience you have will benefit your soul. My little ones experience pain and carry wounds. This should not frighten you. I do not judge you for your pain. I look at your pain and remember My pain and I am compassionate. Your pain will not separate you from Me. Again I say, have no fear. I am working in your soul to bring My kingdom to earth through you. I will see to everything. Trust your Jesus and you will be at peace.

Our Lady has been allowed to stay with us, as she shared in this message. This seems to be an unexpected grace for her. She is as happy about it as we are! And it signals to me that this is indeed a great time of grace. At the English Mass for June 30, Fr. Tom from Ireland shared an interesting way to understand this time of grace. He was talking about martyrdom, and the fruit of the martyr's sacrifice. Here is what he said:

"Like our brothers and sisters in the Roman Empire of the first century, we live once again in an age of martyrdom. Perhaps even greater than the first age. According to "Aid to the Church in Need" there were more martyrs in the 20th Century than in all the previous centuries combined. Today we see the face of the martyred Christ in Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Egypt, Palestine, Sudan, Nigeria. We see Him martyred in the homes and the streets of our towns and cities, wherever dignity is denied and humanity is disfigured. We must do all that we can to combat this suffering with the only true weapon in our possession, the weapon of God's greatest commandment, "Love God and love your neighbor as yourself."

And so as we face into this loving combat each day to work together to renew the face of the earth, we do so in the sure and certain knowledge that sustained the first martyrs, and every martyr since, we are never alone. Because we are united together as one in Christ, whose Body and Blood we share every time we come together in the Eucharist. So let us have courage and hope always to follow the path through suffering, to glory with Jesus our Leader and our Guide.

I want to leave you with this thought. If the faith-filled sacrifice of the first martyrs in the first century, AD, led to such a flowering of culture and faith in the centuries that followed, can you imagine what God is preparing for us to enjoy now? It is not all doom and gloom. In my three years as principal, I have learned that with Jesus in our midst great things are possible, great hurt can be overcome, and great love can be shown. So... Grant us faith, O Lord, and the courage to trust that Your promises to us will be fulfilled. Amen (Fr. Tom from Sligo, Ireland - June 30, 2014 English Mass in Medjugorje)

The 20th Century produced more martyrs than the rest of history combined. This thought has caused me a lot of struggle and sadness. How can we escape a terrible punishment for having so many martyrs in our day? But as always, with Christ there is an upside down meaning to everything. Though the world deserves punishment for creating so many martyrs, the seed of the Martyrs brings a flowering of grace for the world instead. This is the glory of martyrdom. Martyrs die so that life may abound, life in God. This is the incredible mystery of Mercy! And so think of the life that has been seeded in the past century! We may indeed be headed into a time of unparalleled grace. Our Lady is here to lead us into that peace, into that grace, into that life with God. Maybe the future will be a huge surprise of joy, thanks to the work of our brothers and sisters who have gone before us.

Our Lady's presence and the ever new and irrepressible power of God's love and mercy are available to us in these days as never before. With Our Lady's help let's grasp them through faith, cherish them in hope, and live them with love!

In Jesus, Mary and Joseph!
