Mary Reilly
FEAST OF ST. JOSEPH
IN recent messages, I have referred to the locutions of a woman in New York State known as Mary Reilly. While I tend to refer more to the Popes, Saints, and Church Fathers when it comes to prophecy, this modern visionary stands out in particular, in part, because her "messages" flow harmoniously with Tradition. I have spent many hours speaking with Mary, often wearing my old television reporter hat, still pointy with skepticism. Below are some insights which Mary has given me permission to make public, including words from some of her private messages.
In 2001, Mary—a married mother with one adult son—allegedly began receiving visions from the Blessed Virgin Mary and interior locutions from Jesus. This alone is no surprise since there are many people today who claim such supernatural visitations. But in my numerous discussions with her, I realized that this was no “ordinary” visionary. (Her bishop, at the time of this writing, has made no decision to formally investigate the alleged apparitions. A diocesan representative is on record as stating that the diocese remains open to the "possibility of a blessing to the person and the community.")
Mary does not walk about with her hands clasped and pointed toward heaven. She’s a very simple woman, an artist and designer, whose humility regarding the phenomena in her life is immediately evident. Often, when asked for a deeper understanding of the messages Heaven has been giving her, she would answer that she simply doesn’t know; that she is just the messenger, not a theologian (“it’s none of my business,” she often says regarding the future.) In many ways, she reflects the simplicity of the Blessed Mother who also didn’t understand everything her Son did, and simply “kept all these things, pondering them in her heart” (Lk 2:19).
SIGNS AND WONDERS
But that is only the beginning of the extraordinary signs which surrounds this middle-aged woman. During at least two outdoor apparitions which occurred in the rain, dozens of witnesses (among them the late Fr. Albert Shamon, her first spiritual director) saw the rain physically stop about two feet above her head. She remained completely dry while the participants around her stood in the soaking rain. On one occasion in the winter, she had been kneeling in the snow praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet. When she stood up, her pants were completely dry while other’s were soaked right through. On other winter days, when entering a cold car, warm air has immediately poured out of the vents. Several times, witnesses, including priests, have seen food multiply before their eyes while journeying with the seer. On one trip to Ireland, they drove over a thousand miles throughout the island—on one tank of gas. Others who have driven with Mary have witnessed two rays of light extending from the Sun and attaching to the hood of the vehicle, no matter which way the car turns—a sign, she believes, of divine protection. On occasions earlier on, when she was suffering greatly and in need of consolation, Mary says that Holy Communion materialized on her tongue.
SIGN FOR THE CHURCH
In personal messages, Jesus has told her:
Your protection is in proportion to your mission. All has been predestined long before you were born.
As I pondered the supernatural protection and providence which evidently surrounds her, words came to me that Mary is a sign of the divine providence God will bestow upon the Church in the coming Storm. Then I read from one of her private locutions:
As in the multiplication of your meals—this is to symbolize that My children will not go hungry.
She also has the gift of healing. Numerous miraculous healings have been reported after Mary has prayed with individuals or interceded for them. Some of the more dramatic healings include cases, some which are documented, of late-stage terminal brain cancer disappearing and permanent physical handicaps vanishing virtually overnight.
Others who have journeyed with her have also seen the Blessed Virgin Mary appear briefly, have witnessed angels manifest, and seen various signs in the sun and moon. On top of all this, Mary says she has also had apparitions of St. Francis of Assisi, Blessed Mother Teresa, St. Anthony of Padua, Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha, St. Thérèse de Liseux, and St. Pio.
PROPHETIC DIMENSION
Still, none of these signs necessarily prove that this woman is a prophet. It is whether the prophecies which Jesus or Mary communicate through her come true or not which ultimately determines if whether or not she has an authentic prophetic calling. In this regard, Mary Reilly’s mission becomes powerfully convincing.
For example, in a vision she wrote down, Mary witnessed great explosions in downtown New York shortly before 911. The Lord also spoke to her of a coming major world cataclysm where “the seas will rise”. That year, the Asian Tsunami swept over Indonesia. Most recently, in December 2008, the Lord spoke of “Walls of fire, sheets of ice…” Within weeks, American cities were covered in devastating ice storms which claimed numerous lives while record heat waves and massive wildfires scorched Australia.
And, remarkably, the Lord showed her who the next pontiff would be after John Paul II. In a vision, she saw the future pope take three steps forward on a balcony. Her current spiritual director, a priest in England, sent her a photo to identify which cardinal she had seen in her vision. Out of a sea of red, she spotted Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger. There are other private locutions Mary has conveyed to me which, since then, I have seen come true even in the details.
There are other mystical signs which Mary keeps hidden. Many spiritual phenomena known in the lexicon of mysticism are taking place in her life. Heaven is trying to make a point about this soul’s mission. And yet, Mary remains like a little child through it all, in some ways as amazed about these things as those around her. One might think that with all that has taken place that she has nary a doubt about her mission. But she has confided to me the terrible discouragement she has endured, those “voices” which tell her she is a false prophet leading souls to hell, and that she should abandon everything and run. “A good sign you’re on the right path,” advised her spiritual director.
HER MISSION
Unlike some seers whose mission is to simply convey messages from Heaven, Mary has also been given a task: to herald in the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary through Our Lady’s Banner. Indeed, Mary is in the process of finalizing a design for a Banner which will be carried "to the four corners of the earth" as a means by which great graces will be poured out upon the Church. In a message to the seer:
A great responsibility has been bestowed upon you, My dove. For this single piece of Holy Cloth represents My holy and glorious Mother as Queen of Heaven and Earth, the Co-redemptrix and Mediatrix of all grace, the seat of all wisdom—through which all nations will be united and proclaim this Dogma. —Message to Mary Reilly, August 30th, 2006
There is a little known prophecy which was given by St. Catherine Labouré regarding our times, and seemingly, about this very Banner:
"Oh, how beautiful it will be to hear it said: Mary is Queen of the universe. That will be a time of peace, joy and happiness which will be long… She will be borne like a banner and will make a tour of the world.” The Virgin foretold that this time would come only after “the entire world will be in sadness… Afterwards, peace." —Vie de Catherine Labouré, by Rev. R. Laurentin (Desclée de Brouwer: Paris, 1980)
With supernatural speed, reminiscent of other seers in our times, witnesses saw Mary rapidly ascend Mount Subasio in Assisi, Italy in 2005. At the top, the Lord said He would give her a message. When her friends and spiritual director finally caught up with her, they rounded the bend to discover a chair and a table sitting there in the middle of nowhere! Mary sat down and the Lord began to speak to her. He instructed her to descend the mountain to the Cave of St. Francis, and there, she would receive a message from the late John Paul II. There in the Cave where St. Francis often prayed, she allegedly heard that voice so familiar to many of us, the voice of John Paul the Great:
Benedictum tui, Sacramentum, Sacramentum, e Benedictum tui. Go forth Maria and raise the Banner high… This Banner, Maria, is the Holy Cloth that will go before and after the blood of the martyrs. The holy hills will be destroyed and the Holy See will flee Roma for a period of time. Evil will be everywhere from the top of every mountain to the depths of the valleys across every plain, for the AntiChrist will have a short reign. Child, e paxi buono, e paxi buono. The Banner—the Holy Cloth—is the secret of Fatima. It has been passed to you. You will journey afar with the Scepter and Banner. The Banner will be passed to the one who sits on the Throne of Peter. The holy hills will be rebuilt. —private message, October 4th, 2005
It would seem, then, that the Triumph of our Lady and the Era of Peace will begin within her liftetime. Hence, the nearness of events and the sense of urgency many of us feel comes more into perspective. And yet, God’s timing always seems to allude our own, hence, we simply do what He said: "Watch and pray."
I am certain I will have more to write about this little soul from New York…
Do not despise prophetic utterance. Test everything; retain what is good. (1 Thess 5:20-21)
