Feast of Saint Catherine of Siena, Virgin and Doctor

As we approach the Month of May, dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, we ask that you join with us in a period of intense prayer of the Most Holy Rosary throughout the entire Month, beginning on the Feast of Saint Joseph, The Worker, May 1st, for the Bishops of the United States to commit to a solemn procession of the statue of Our Lady of America into the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception at Washington, D.C., very soon. As we approach the Feast of The Ascension of Our Lord Jesus Christ [May 13, 2010] followed by the Descent of The Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and the Blessed Virgin Mary on Pentecost [May 23, 2010], we are reminded that: "All these devoted themselves with one accord to prayer, together with some women, and Mary, the Mother of Jesus, and his brothers." [Acts 1:14 (NAB)]

What better way to join into this solemn time of prayer, than The Most Holy Rosary: "One thing is clear: although the repeated Hail Mary is addressed directly to Mary, it is to Jesus that the act of love is ultimately directed, with her and through her." [His Holiness, Pope John Paul II, Apostolic Letter of October 16, 2002, Rosarium Virginis Mariae, #26]

We are also reminded of what Saint Peter said immediately after Pentecost: "Peter (said) to them, 'Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in The Name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.'" [Acts 2:38 (NAB)]

As we honor The Holy Name of Jesus and look forward to the celebration of His Most Sacred Heart (in June) and His Most Precious Blood (in July), we consider that: "To pray the Rosary is to hand over our burdens to the merciful Hearts of Christ and His Mother." [His Holiness, Pope John Paul II, Apostolic Letter of October 16, 2002, Rosarium Virginis Mariae, #25]

Thus, The Rosary leads us through invoking Mary, to the contemplation of Our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and that reflection focuses on the highest objects of human thought: The Name, The Heart & The Blood. As Pope John XXIII said in his last major letter before the Second Council of The Vatican: "It would be fitting at this point to recall to you that practice, repeated on many occasions, of the three devotions which We consider fundamental also for the simple faithful of the laity: 'Nothing is better for enlightening and encouraging the adoration of Jesus than to meditate upon Him and invoke Him in the threefold light of the Name, the Heart and the Blood'". [His Holiness, Pope John XXIII, Letter of July 2, 1962 to Women Religious, Il Tempio Massimo]

This we can do most effectively through The Most Holy Rosary, and we respectfully ask that you do this suchwise that the Bishops of the United States of America will soon, very soon, have that Solemn Procession of the statue of Our Lady of America into the National Shrine of The Immaculate Conception at Washington. Please dedicate the prayer of The Rosary throughout the 31 days of the Month of May to this intention. Then, let us hope and trust that on The Feast of The Visitation (May 31), Our Lady will bring Her Divine Son, Jesus, to the Bishops in a most special way.

In The Name, The Heart, The Blood and The Divine Will of Jesus, through
The Sorrowful & Immaculate Heart of His Mother, The Blessed Virgin Mary,
All the best,
Kevin B. McCarthy

P.S.: Whenever in the Washington Metropolitan area, you may wish to visit the Pope John Paul II Cultural Center and venerate that statue of Our Lady of America originally displayed at the 2006 Baltimore Meeting of the United States Catholic Bishops which His Excellency, Raymond Leo Burke, Archbishop of Saint Louis, did bless on November 15, 2006. The Pope John Paul II Cultural Center is located nearby to the Basilica of the National Shrine of The Immaculate Conception and the Catholic University of America. For directions see: www.jp2cc.org
