Rosary Rally 2012
Our new venue at United Nations Plaza turned out to be a positive. Passers-by on Market Street stopped and in some cases stayed, as they saw thousands of us in prayer and song. Was this really taking place in San Francisco?
One of the best parts of the Rally was the partnership that developed between the Rosary Rally team and the Archdiocesan Hispanic Pastoral Council on the day of its Annual Hispanic Mass. After a standing-room-only Mass at St. Mary's Cathedral and a blessing by San Francisco's new (and fluent in Spanish) Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone, a procession of 1,700 led by Bishop William Justice, wound down the streets of San Francisco to U.N. Plaza. There they met up with the Rally crowd of another 2,000 or so, already reciting the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary. Seminarians carried three statues of Our Lady in the procession--Our Lady of the Rosary, Our Lady of Guadalupe and the Immaculate Conception--surrounded by flowers on floats, which then graced the stage throughout the two-hour Rally.
Devotions included two Rosaries, Benediction, with Bishop Justice officiating, and Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. Talks followed by Fr. Moises Agudo, Archdiocesan Hispanic Vicar, and Fr. Mark Mary, of EWTN's Life on the Rock, who was as engaging in person as he is on TV. Immaculate Heart Radio, one of the sponsors, covered the event live. Other sponsors included the Archdiocese of San Francisco and its Hispanic Pastoral Council, the Legion of Mary, Ignatius Press, and the Knights of Columbus, our security team in full Knights' regalia. Msgr. James Tarantino, Chairman of the Rosary Rally Committee, led us in song and cheers--for Our Lady, for her Divine Son, and for our Country's heritage of religious freedom and its continuance.
