Dear Family of Mary!

"My children, pray, pray, pray for the gift of love because 'love' is my Son..." (November 2, 2013)

The gift of love changes everything. When we experience the love that is Jesus, we are transformed. We no longer operate in the logic of the world. We no longer desire our own way, our own truth, our own life. We realize that we are created for love, and therefore we are destined to love and be loved by God. This comes from the gift of love, which is Jesus, the way, the truth and the life!.

St. Faustina was thus transformed. She experienced the love of God which is Jesus, and in that experience she was able to convert, to turn to God with her whole self. She wrote:

Today the Lord's gaze shot through me suddenly, like lightning. At once, I came to know the tiniest specks in my soul, and knowing the depths of my misery, I fell to my knees and begged the Lord's pardon, and with great trust I immersed myself in His infinite mercy. Such knowledge does not depress me nor keep me away from the Lord, but rather it arouses in my soul greater love and boundless trust. The repentance of my heart is linked to love. These extraordinary flashes from the Lord educate my soul. O sweet rays of God, enlighten me to the most secret depth, for I want to arrive at the greatest possible purity of heart and soul. (852, Diary)

"The repentance of my heart is linked to love." St. Faustina experience the gaze of the Lord. That gaze was entirely love. It was totally love. And that love enlightened her. It uncovered with its rays the tiniest sins, the smallest imperfections, because they were impediments to love. And in that light, St. Faustina desired to be purified. She chose to be transformed by that love, that gaze, so that she would be capable of love.

This experience of the gaze of the Lord sounds very much like Purgatory. That gaze is a purifying gaze. It enkindles a desire in the soul, the desire for God. And that desire burns away all that is not of God, so that the soul can be united with Him. Purgatory is such a state of desire. It is love that triggers repentance.

May we all experience the gaze of love, the gaze of the Lord, so that we will desire Him above all else. That desire will move us to true and complete repentance!

In Jesus, Mary and Joseph!
