The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Dear Family of Mary!
On
this beautiful feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, let us
listen to some advice that she gave to Jakov many years ago:
Tuesday, September 8, 1981
Jakov wishes the Blessed Virgin a happy birthday. She answers: "It
is for me a beautiful day. With respect to you, persevere in the faith
and in prayer. Do not be afraid. Remain in joy. It is my desire. Let joy
appear on your faces...."
Today is a beautiful day for Our Lady! We, who wish her a "Happy Birthday" can also take the advice she gave to Jakov:
Persevere
in faith and prayer: No matter what comes at us today we must affirm
and cling to our faith. The gift of faith is given to us, but it is
actualized in our lives when we live according to that gift. When we
believe, we place our lives in God's hands. We trust Him. We follow Him.
We adore Him. And we praise Him. We bet our entire life on Him! And the
pray!!! We talk to Him.
Do
not be afraid: fear is the "anti-gift" of the enemy. He offers us fear
as the only way to look at the future. Fear of the future, fear of
death, fear of life, fear of humanity, fear of failure...the
list is endless. But this anti-gift must be renounced, denied,
disbelieved, warded off, rejected. It is not good for us. And it is not
based on the truth. God is good. And He is with us to bless us. No
matter what, fear will lead us in the wrong direction, away from God. We
must not act on fear, only on faith.
Remain
in joy. It is my desire. Let joy appear on your faces: Our Lady is
asking us to put on joy. She wants us to understand the love of the
Father, and let that love fill us with joy. We are children of God. We
are children of Mary. This life is a pathway to heaven. We are glory
bound. Our God is an awesome God, and we can be joyful! Like Mary we can
say, "My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord and my spirit
rejoices in God my Savior!"
Today,
on this celebration of the birth of Our Mother, let's give her the gift
of our perseverance in faith and prayer, our choice to renounce fear,
and our further choice to embrace joy! This will make her day
beautiful!!
Here is the prayer for Matins on this feast. It says it all:
Thy birth, O Virgin Mother of God, heralded joy to all the world. For from thou hast risen the Sun of justice, Christ our God.
Destroying the curse, He gave blessing; and damning death, He bestowed on us life everlasting.
Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb. For from thou hast risen of Sun of justice, Christ our God.
In Jesus, Mary and Joseph!
