SCRIPTURE COMMENTARY #173

"You have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thy enemy. But I say to you, Love your enemies: do good to them that hate you: and pray for them that persecute and calumniate you: That you may be the children of your Father who is in heaven."
(Matt. 5:43-45)

THE COMMAND TO LOVE OUR NEIGHBOR is applied by Jesus to all men, even to our personal enemies. Our Lord also requires that our love should be of a practical kind.

[From 'A Practical Commentary on Holy Scripture' by Bishop Knecht, D.D.]
(1899 Douay-Rheims Bible)

Please no anonymous comments. I require at least some way for people to address each other personally and courteously. Having some name or handle helps.
