Topic: Espousal of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Feast Day January 23
Quote:
"Mary then made known to [St. Joseph] that she had taken a vow of chastity and begged him to aid her in keeping it faithfully, upon which St. Joseph discovered to her that he also had made the like vow at the age of twelve years."
Ven. Mary of Agreda, The Divine Life of the Virgin Mary, (Tan Books), 41.
Meditation:
"Filled with joy at the conformity of sentiment and will with which God had inspired them, they renewed their vows and promised to mutually aid each other in the path of perfection."
Ven. Mary of Agreda, The Divine Life of the Virgin Mary, (Tan Books), 41.
Pope Pius XI
"[Marriage] must have as its primary purpose that man and wife help each other day by day in forming and perfecting themselves in the interior life, so that through their partnership in life they may advance ever more and more in virtue, and above all that they may grow in love toward God and their neighbor on which indeed 'dependeth the whole Law and the Prophets.'"
Pope Pius XI, Casti Connubii, #23.
Resolution:
The true end of any vocation, including marriage, is the growth of the interior life. What can I do so that my vocation leads me towards a growth in holiness? Today, I will try to put aside a few minutes so that I can ask (in a conversational way) Our Lady and St. Joseph to help me discover the answer to this question. This will be my first step towards a day with more attention to my interior life.
Marian Vow:
"The Tertiaries of the Immaculate should have a holy respect for the body that is 'the temple of the Holy Spirit' (1 Cor 6, 19) and they should observe the Christian precepts of living a chaste life according to their proper state to the edification of so many who have need of genuine testimony against all the desecrations of an idolized body.
Marian Seraphic Pathways, Traccia #48.
I give this resolution to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Thanks be to God for graces received.
