Topic: The Espousal of the Blessed Virgin Mary to St. Joseph
Feast Day January 23
Quote:
The Lord speaks to Our Lady in prayer
"I will aid thee by My grace, and will choose a man perfect and according to My heart. My power is infinite, and it shall be exercised for thy protection."
Ven. Mary of Agreda, The Divine Life of the Most Blessed Virgin, (Tan Books) 40.
Meditation:
Edward Healy Thompson
"[The] marriage of Mary and Joseph tended to hide and veil from men the virginity of Mary, since this was the one chief object and desire of these two holy spouses; that is, while jealously guarding and cultivating virginity, to withdraw it from the observation of men and from their esteem, hiding it through humility under the veil of matrimony, that they might not be regarded as singular."
The Life and Glories of Saint Joseph, (Tan Books: 1980), 149.
Resolution:
Our Lady and St. Joseph kept many things shielded from the world as a mark of humility. What can I do today to imitate their humility? One time, I will not draw attention to something that I have done or accomplished. (At least, I will not interrupt or finish sentences for others as a small act of humility.)
Marian Vow:
"The Marian vow of unlimited consecration to the Immaculate entails a vigorous, radical and complete asceticism, which in terms of immediate implications means substantially two things:
-eliminate every defect, even minimal, displeasing to the Mother of God, to Her immaculate purity: one must be, not only the 'property' of the Immaculate, but a pure and noble property, truly 'without stain';
-reclothe oneself, within and without, with the virtues of the Immaculate: the theological and cardinal virtues, the moral and religious, so as to become as it were 'another Mary living, speaking and working."
Father Stefano Manelli, FI, The Marian Vow of Unlimited Consecration to the Immaculate, 17.
I give this resolution to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Thanks be to God for graces received.
