“He has done everything well. He even makes the deaf to hear and the mute to speak.” | Mark 7:37 September 9, 2012 23rd Sunday of Ordinary Time
Dear John, For most of us, the five senses (hear, see, touch, taste, smell) are our contact with reality. We take them for granted. But of course not everyone is so blessed, and perhaps we have experienced temporary or permanent loss of one of the senses. Jesus went about doing good, and His good works often involved “making the deaf to hear and the mute to speak” as well as giving sight to the blind. Catholic Medical Mission Board carries on this mission of Jesus, not so much through the miracles that He performed, but the miracles of modern medicine. And while we work and pray for the continued success of CMMB, we also ask God to assist and guide us in using the senses He has given us. | God our Father, cleanse and strengthen every part of us. Be on our lips that we may speak no false, cruel, ugly or impure word. Be in our eyes that we may not look for things to criticize, but for things to praise, and may look on the things that are beautiful and good. Be in our minds that they may always be brave to think, eager to learn, and retentive to remember, and that all our thoughts may be pure. Be in our hearts, that we may always love that which highest and best, and that we may surrender our hearts to You in loyalty and in devotion. Amen Rev.
