Beirut (dpa) - Pope Benedict XVI departed Sunday from Lebanon after a three-day visit during which he called for a peaceful coexistence in the Middle East.
"I hope that Lebanon will fortify the communion among all its inhabitants, whatever their community or religion and that it will resolutely reject all that could lead to disunity," the pope said at Beirut airport.
The pope, who departed on board Lebanese national carrier Middle East Airlines, was waved off by Lebanon‘s Christian President Michel Suleiman and Sunni-Muslim Prime Minister Nagib Mikati. dpa wh hl
