“The Explanation of the Co-redemptrix”


In her April 29, 1951 message, the Lady of All Nations reveals, “the new dogma shall be the dogma of the Co-redemptrix.” She goes on to say that in spite of great controversy, “the Church, Rome, will carry through with it and fight for it. The Church, Rome, will incur opposition and stand firm. The Church, Rome, will grow stronger and more powerful insofar as she stands firm in the fight.” Our Lady then urges theologians “onward to this fight.” After explaining the theology of her role as Co-redemptrix she says of this upcoming dogma, “I know, the struggle will be hard and bitter… but the outcome is already assured.” – Ed.

“The Proclamation of the Co-redemptrix”

In this May 31, 1954 message from the Lady of All Nations (ecclesiastical approval, May 31, 2002, see “Church Approves Apparitions of the Lady of All Nations” article), Our Lady calls both theologians, bishops and the faithful to “work and ask for this dogma. You should petition the Holy Father for this dogma.” She also explains that the titles Co-redemptrix, Mediatrix and Advocate are “three concepts in one,” that is three aspects of her one role as spiritual Mother of all humanity. Our Lady then gives the seer a vision of the proclamation of the dogma by the Holy Father in St. Peter’s Basilica and states “my prophecy that ‘all generations will call me blessed’ will be fulfilled more than ever once the Dogma has been proclaimed.” – Ed.

Are You Afraid of Mary “Co-redemptrix”?

What is your first response when you hear someone refer to the mother of Jesus Christ as the “Co-redemptrix”?

Extreme? Excessive pietism, even if well-intended? Heresy? Only Jesus is the Redeemer. If not directly heresy, then extremely dangerous? At least anti-ecumenical?

Mary Co-redemptrix: A Response to 7 Common Objections

On December 23, 2000, The New York Times ran a cover story in its “Arts and Ideas” section on the Vox Populi Mariae Mediatrici movement, which seeks the papal definition of the Blessed Virgin Mary as the Co-redemptrix, Mediatrix of all graces and Advocate. This article was in turn reprinted in a great number of U.S. major newspapers, thereby sparking renewed and high-spirited debate internationally over the concept of Our Lady as “Co-redemptrix,” both inside and outside Catholic circles of thought.

In simple, yet poetic and profound language the third chapter of the Book of Genesis narrates the story of the fall of man. Three creatures play the major roles in this momentous drama: the serpent, the woman and the man. The serpent beguiles. The woman who was given to the man as his helpmate lets herself be beguiled and the man follows suit. The story seems deceptively simple, but it has monumental implications. Mary Co-redemptrix: Aid to Ecumenism

Telesphore P. Cardinal Toppo, former president of India’s National Conference of Catholic Bishops, granted the following interview with Zenit News Service concerning the drive for the new solemn definition of a fifth Marian dogma that would define Mary’s spiritual maternity under its three essential aspects—Co-redemptrix, Mediatrix of all graces, and Advocate. Contrary to the opinions of some who believe that such a solemn definition would adversely affect ecumenical relations, Cardinal Toppo believes that such a definition would enhance the ecumenical mission of the Church. “I have no doubt that non-Catholic Christians participating in ecumenical dialogue, either will find this position acceptable or at least will have no valid or convincing argument against it.”

In May 2001 Pope John Paul II called to Rome the cardinals of the world in a special consistory seeking to implement the pastoral directives for the new millennium as contained in his papal document Novo Millennio Ineunte (At the Beginning of the Third Millennium).

On the first day of the consistory, as the third official presenter to the College of Cardinals and in the presence of Pope John Paul II, His Eminence, Luis Cardinal Aponte Martínez, Archbishop of Puerto Rico, offered to the consistory the following presentation concerning the decisive role of the Mother of All Peoples in the imperative of the New Evangelization for the third millennium.

Mother Teresa’s Letter of Support for Mary Co-redemptrix

Mary is our Coredemptrix with Jesus. She gave Jesus his body and suffered with him at the foot of the cross.
Mary is the Mediatrix of all grace. She gave Jesus to us, and as our Mother she obtains for us all his graces.
Mary is our Advocate who prays to Jesus for us. It is only through the Heart of Mary that we come to the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus.
The papal definition of Mary as Coredemptrix, Mediatrix, and Advocate will bring great graces to the Church.
