[MaryVitamin] preparing for Our Lady of Sorrows

Mary Vitamin for September 14th

Topic: Stabat Mater and Jacopone da Todi
Preparing for the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows

Quote:
Two quotes today by:

"I weep because Love is not loved!"
&
"At the Cross Her station keeping stood the mournful mother weeping"
From the hymn Stabat Mater

Meditation:
Upon the accidental death of his holy wife, Jacopone da Todi experienced a profound conversion.  He realized the hair shirt worn under his dear wife's garments was worn as penance for him.  He completely renounced his former way and lived a life of "foolish poverty." He became a Third Order Franciscan. In his last years he composed the Stabat Mater and would cry out to all:

“I weep because love is not loved!”

Stabat Mater
O thou Mother! fount of love!
Touch my spirit from above;
Make my heart with thine accord.

Make me feel as thou hast felt;
Make my soul to glow and melt
With the love of Christ our Lord.

Holy Mother! pierce me through;
In my heart each wound renew
Of my Saviour crucified.
(The whole text is found at Patron Saints Index)

One who could write a hymn full of tenderness towards the Blessed Virgin Mary must have lived a life of ardent devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. It seems as though he lived with the eyes of Mary, in  the heart of Mary, and spoke the unspoken words of Our Lady at the foot of the Cross:
"I weep because love is not loved!"

Resolution:
What am I doing in return for the greatness of the Love shown on Good Friday? Today, I will remember the great love shown by God on the Cross and the broken Heart of the sorrowful Mother by repeating the words of Jacopone da Todi:
Love is not loved!

Marian Vow:
Father Stefano Manelli, FI
[R]eclothe oneself, within and without, with the virtues of the Immaculate: the theological and cardinal virtues, the moral and religious, so as to become as it were "another Mary living, speaking and working."
The Marian Vow of Unlimited Consecration to the Immaculate, (Immaculate Mediatrix Edition: 1996), 17.

I give this resolution to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Thanks be to God for graces received.
