Topic: What makes the Visit of the Magi one of the Joys of Our Lady?
(From the Franciscan Crown, celebrated on August 26th.)
Quote:
"Saint Francis of Sales wrote to Saint Jane de Chantal, 'God so loves humility, that wherever He sees it, He is immediately drawn thither.'"
St. Alphonsus di Liguori, The Glories of Mary, (Tan Books:1977), 465.
Meditation:
St. Therese of Lisieux
"Veiled in the white Host, O my Well-Beloved, how meek and humble of heart dost Thou show Thyself to me! Thou couldst not stoop lower to teach me humility, and I, to respond to Thy Love, desire to put myself in the lowest place and share Thy humiliations, that I may have part with Thee (John 13:8) in the Kingdom of Heaven."
Thoughts of St. Therese, (Tan Books: 1988), 41-2.
St. Therese speaks of the humility of the Lord demonstrates in the Blessed Sacrament. In Bethlehem, the "City of Bread", our Lord also demonstrates His humility in the meekness of His coming as man and the poverty of the surroundings into which He was born.

The humble appreciate the humility of others. The Kings of this earth were willing to visit the King of Kings in the most humble of places. They bowed down and worshiped before Him in Mary's arms. The Blessed Virgin Mary rejoiced in the display of their humility and in her ability to share the Lord, the joy of her soul with others.
Resolution:
St. Margaret Mary Alocoque has many suggestions on how to practice humility.
In order to increase Our Lady's joy in the practice of my humility, I will try to practice one of the following:
"Above all, let us carefully keep silence on occasions that mortify us. Let us be charitable and humble, both in our thoughts and words."
"Avoid over-eagerness and strive to model your interior and exterior upon the humble sweetness of the loving Heart of Jesus, doing each of your actions with the same tranquility as if you had but that alone to do."
"Be humble and courageous in not giving way to despondency on account of your faults or of the sight vexations and humiliations with which you may meet."
Thoughts and Sayings of Saint Margaret Mary, (Tan Books: 1986), 66-68.

Marian Vow:
The example of humility practiced by St. Maximilian Kolbe
"At the mission office here, they did not receive the letter telling about my arrival, so no one came to meet me. Consequently, this was another source of certain tiny crosses, just small ones. Unlimited honor to the Immaculate for everything!
Fr. Anselm W. Romb, OFM Conv., The Kolbe Reader, (Franciscan Marytown Press: 1987), 88.
I give this resolution to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Thanks be to God for graces received.
