Mary Vitamin for August 17th

Topic:  Why is the Annunciation one of the Joys of Our Lady?
(Preparing for the Feast of the Joys of Our Lady-August 26
The Seven Joys of Our Lady are also referred to as the Franciscan Crown)

Quote:
Father Faber
"But what desire ever had such intensity as Mary's yearning for Messias unless indeed it were His own eternal longing for his created nature?"
Father Faber, Bethlehem, (Tan Books:1978 ), 68.

Meditation:
"You open wide your hand,
grant the desires of all who live."
Psalm 145

It is a great joy to have the desires of your heart granted. In reflecting upon Our Lady and her experience in the great event of the Annunciation, we can see at least four of Our Lady's desires fulfilled miraculously by God.

1. Our Lady's desire for the coming of the Messiah.
Our Lady was one of the chosen People. She was waiting for the Messiah. How wondrously her desire for the Messiah was fulfilled!
2. Our Lady's desire to become a mother.
Can we say as the woman designed from all time to be the mother of the Savior that Our Lady had a desire for motherhood? If one is designed for a specific mission then the Lord gives the desire for the mission.
3. Our Lady's Vow of Virginity is preserved.
Our Lady's Virginity is completely preserved despite the nature of her mission to be Mother of God.
4. Union with God.
All souls have desire for union with God. In the Annunciation, Our Lady's desire for union with God is fulfilled to overflowing.

 Resolution:
I will try to imitate Our Lady's longing for the Messiah. Today I will repeatedly desire that the Lord come to renew my heart and my family. I will ask Him to be present at our meals and to be the unseen Guest in our home.

Marian Vow:
St. Maximilian Kolbe
"The virginal womb of the Immaculata is reserved for the Holy Spirit and in it begins in time --as everything material begins in time --also the life of the God-Man."
Will to Love, (Marytown Press: 2001), 30.

I give this resolution to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Thanks be to God for graces received.
