Madonna della Rossano
Commemorated on August 25.
The ancient image of the Madonna acheropita ("Madonna not made by hands"), now located in the Diocesan Museum, probably dating between 580 and the first half of the eighth century.
It is said that the Saracens, seeking to surprise the town of Rossano, where they had already planted ladders, were repulsed by Our Lady, who appeared attired in purple, and holding in her hand a lighted torch; this so terrified them, that they took to flight.— (Gabriel de Barry.)

Please no anonymous comments. I require at least some way for people to address each other personally and courteously. Having some name or handle helps.
