September 7, 2010Dear Family of Mary!"Let prayer be your life. Dear children, dedicate your time only to Jesus and he will give you everything that you are seeking. He will reveal himself to you in fullness." (September 25, 1987) These are very nice words from Our Lady. "Let prayer be your life." But most of us would say that we haven't yet figured out how to do it. Prayer can be really hard work. But we may find that it is work really worth doing. Dedicating our time to Jesus takes acts of the will in which we decide to stop everything and pray. But as we do it, we find that it gets more and more natural. The other day I was journaling on this Scripture:"'Come now, let us reason together,' says the Lord; 'Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow, though they are read like crimson, they shall become like wool.'" (Is 1:18) Immediately the words, "Come now, let us reason together," jumped out at me. What an interesting thing for the Lord to say! So I asked in my journal, "How do we reason together, Lord?"
He seemed to reply, "You ask me questions and I answer them. You grow under my tutelage." I said, "Oh yes, it is so sweet that I can ask you little questions and You will answer them in a way that I can understand! I feel so safe, thinking with you. You don't try to belittle me or hurt me; You really want me to learn. I wish I could teach like You." He seemed to reply, "Let me teach through you.""How, Lord?""Continue to listen, to be attentive to Me - 'Come now, let us reason together!' Do you see how I include you in the process?" "Yes I do, You really let the questions bubble up in me, then You speak.""Yes, so you will be part of the exchange, and it will touch you within. It will be real. There is no other way to communicate." "Oh, Jesus, I love you. You are the Good Shepherd!"It really is beautiful that the Lord wants to communicate with us in such a personal and gentle way. Jesus wants us to come to Him just as we are, without pretense or fanfare. He wants to explain things to us so that we can follow Him. Like a good Father, a patient Big Brother, He can tolerate all of our questions, time and again. If we are being honest with him, He will always be there with the answers. He wants us to "reason" with Him because then He can reveal Himself to us! In Jesus and Mary!
