Isaiah:66:10-14c

Matthew 18:1-4

Despite the fact that Thérèse of Lisieux never left her Carmelite monastery in France, she had a great longing to go on mission. She wanted to go to Vietnam, wishing to share the faith as a member of the daughter monastery of Lisieux in Saigon. That was never to be. Thérèse’s ill health led her superiors to hold her back in France. But her missionary heart never ceased to long for the opportunity to spread the Good News.

The reading from the prophet Isaiah for the feast comes from the very end of the prophet’s book. At this point in Isaiah, the LORD promises that all nations will stream into Jerusalem. Everyone will know the LORD and be his servants. This was Thérèse’s missionary heart as well. She yearned for everyone to know Jesus so much that she wanted to be a missionary with every fiber of her being.

Suggested Missionary Action: Reflect a few minutes on your own willingness to be a missionary. Can you share the good news of Jesus, or do you shrink from the task?
