What is the good life? Jesus was continually calling into question the accepted beliefs of his time—for example, that power over others was important and necessary or that life is measured by one’s wealth and prosperity. Well, what does our life consist of, if not power and possessions? Good question. Jesus would say: “Relationships—with God, ourselves, and others.” He might add, “Meaningful work and opportunities to be generous, helpful, and creative.” Take a good look around your life: notice the state of your relationships, the work you do, the joy you share. Are you using the right measuring stick? TODAY’S READINGS: Romans 4:20-25; Luke 12:13-21 (473) “Take care to guard against all greed, for though one may be rich, one’s life does not consist of possessions.” |
