“My
sheep hear My voice…I give them eternal life, and they shall never
perish. My Father, Who has given them to Me, is greater than all, and
no one can take them out of the Father’s hand. The Father and I are
One.”

April 21, 2013 Fourth Sunday of Easter Good Shepherd Sunday
Dear Friends,
One of
the most beautiful images of God is found in the book of Isaiah. God
explains, "Behold, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands”
(Isaiah 49:16). God cares for each one of us, loves us, protects us,
like the shepherd guarding and caring for the sheep. Thus, we celebrate
each year on this fourth Sunday of Easter, Good Shepherd Sunday.
During these days after Easter, Jesus Christ, now Risen Lord,
goes about bringing new life and hope to the apostles. He is the Good
Shepherd Who seeks and searches for those who may have lost faith.
And yet, there is one more step or stage. We, the followers of the
Risen Lord, are to bear witness to Him. One way to do this is by
imitating the action of the Shepherd, reaching out to show love and
concern for all of God’s children, especially those who are weak,
unprotected, and vulnerable. Is not this at the heart of what Catholic
Medical Mission Board is about?

O
God, Whose Son Jesus Christ is the Good Shepherd for Your people, grant
that when we hear His voice we may know Him Who calls us each by name,
follow where He leads, and imitate His care and concern for all of God’s
people. We ask this through Christ, Risen Lord. Amen
