Ron Wilcoxson speaks of the miracle of Anna
April 19, 2013
Dear Family of Mary!
"Dear children! Today I call you to begin to pray the Rosary with a living faith. That way I will be able to help you. You, dear children, wish to obtain graces, but you are not praying. I am not able to help you because you do not want to get started. Dear children, I am calling you to pray the Rosary and that your Rosary be an obligation which you shall fulfill with joy. That way you shall understand the reason I am with you this long. I desire to teach you to pray. Thank you for having responded to my call." (June 12, 1986)
Now we will hear about the miracle of Anna from her father, Ron!
I reacted in a way...I wanted to be supportive for Sherry, but our emotions run differently. I worked it out by planting 300 geraniums around the house. It was a beautiful house that summer! So that was one of the ways I worked through it. I needed to do something physical to contain my inner emotions.
We went through the process of the surgery and I was just so impressed with Sherry's courage, when she went through 13 amniotic needles inserted with little or no anesthesia, so it was like being stabbed with a knife 13 times. And then watching Anna's reaction to it, it was just heartbreaking. But going through it, the outcome was so positive. Going through critical care in the hospital one evening, and finding out that Anna was still alive, and we could go home to come back and live the story again...The emotion made such an impact [on me].
And a sideline, working in the medical field, like Sherry and I both do, from the pharmaceutical side, we came across several physicians, Sherry did and I did, and they all said, "There is no hope for this, you should abort." You try to get support, and they give you no hope. They say, "If you have 1 percent chance, start over, it's not going to happen for you." But our faith was too strong to believe that. So we continued to pray the Rosary, and that gave us an incredible amount of strength.
But on the lighter side, we did a conference in Irvine, California, to give a testimonial on the miracle of Anna. Being from South Bend, we were a little naïve and didn't know what to expect. We had not been exposed to the Medjugorje phenomenon. We thought we were going to go talk to maybe 100 people. But when we got there, it was 6500 people, and we were center stage. We were with the visionaries, it was phenomenal. We were able to be in the apparition room when it was taking place. And we felt that. And the response we got for our testimonial was so wonderful. People wanted to touch Anna because they knew she had been touched by God. it was such a blessing to have this little kid running around. We couldn't keep up with her! People were amazed to know how she was, from the testimony, and how she was then. It was a wonderful experience.
Another sideline...I said, "I'm lucky. I don't have to worry about sports. I can sit back. She's going to do girl things." Well....this wasn't the case. She was supposed to be totally incapable of doing any kind of sport. Yet she excels in every kind of sport, softball, volley ball, basketball, and her number one sport is golf! And coming from what she came from, to have her athletic ability is a total testimony to the strength of God and what he has destined for her in her life. She was brought into this world, and God has a purpose for her in this world, and he is guiding her to this day. And we are along for the ride, and for support!
So that's what it is like to live with a miracle, I get joy out of it every day! And God blessed me also. Anna is my only biological child. And for the most part she has a lot of her mother's characteristics, her red hair, her excitable personality, but she walks like me, she has a lot of the physical features of me, and it is a blessing to see that! We always say we have been blessed because she got the best of both of us and not the worst! We are enjoying going through our journey of life with her.
I have seen so many miracles for the people I have prayed for, not only Anna, but other people I have prayed the Rosary for. Miracles of healing. It's there. Like Sherry said, it is not that you have faith, but you know it is there. It is not just that you believe it is there, you know it is there. There is a big difference.
And it is such an incredible blessing to be touched in that way. You are so close to what God has done. Every child that comes into this world is a blessing. If you just look at the miracle of it, everything that has to come together to have a child, no matter how that child comes into the world, it comes in the special way that God wants it to come. It is mind-boggling.
To be in the background of science, to see all the minutia it takes to develop a human being! God is doing that, man is not doing that. The outcome is God's not man's. So that is why, knowing that, we would never, never abort any human being that God puts together to be on this earth.
I tell Anna often when I see her swing a golf club, or I see her play fast pitch softball and pitch or catch, or hit a ball for a triple, "You are totally blessed to do this, you weren't even supposed to walk!" You weren't supposed to live 6 months, and you have been totally blessed. We say this every day, in what we have in our life and what we share in our life, our home, our friends, our family...we are totally blessed, and we are overjoyed!!
When Sherry and I came together, we came together with literally nothing. And by God's grace we have blossomed into everything!
Ron Wilcoxson is a happy man! He knows that God is with him, he knows that Anna is a gift from God, and he lives in that joyous knowledge every day. ( He is also Anna's golf coach, and she is terrific! She will play golf in college, and is she good!) Like Ron and Sherry, we all live in the miraculous love of God, a love so strong and deep that we cannot exhaust it. We are all miracles of God's love!
In Jesus, Mary and Joseph!

PPS. Please pray for the town of West, Texas. They have been devastated by the blast at the fertilizer plant. Let's all pray a Rosary for them this weekend!
