CMMB: Your Weekly Reflection in Prayer 5/19/2013

Weekly Prayer Reflection for Summer

“There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit; there are different forms of service but the same Lord.”

1 Corinthians 12:4-5

Pentecost Sunday
Dear Friends,
In one of my favorite passages from the Second Vatican Council, we read that, “We must hold that the Holy Spirit offers to all the possibility of being made partners, in a way known to God, in the paschal mystery” (Church in the Modern World, No. 22). Indeed, God’s Spirit is offered not only to Christians or Catholics, but to each and every human being. The Spirit Who moved over the face of the earth at creation, according to the Book of Genesis, the Spirit Who came with power upon the apostles at Pentecost, is trying to break into the hearts of each and every human being.

While it is important for us to be open to the Spirit Who inspires and gives His gifts generously to us, we should also be attentive to, watch for, learn from, and thank God for His Spirit which is offered to each and every human being.

O God, Who by the mystery of today’s feast sanctify the whole Church in every people and nation, pour out the gifts of the Holy Spirit across the face of the earth, and with the divine grace that was at work when the Gospel was first proclaimed, fill now once more the hearts of believers. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
