Dear Family of Mary!
"Dear children, also today, in a special way, I invite you in this time of grace to open your souls to the Holy Spirit. Dear children, do not permit the world to lead you. Therefore, may the Holy Spirit lead you. Pray, persevere in prayer, that the Holy Spirit may descend upon your families who are in darkness. The mother prays together with you, intercedes before her son for you. Thank you, dear children, for responding to my call today." (Message given through Ivan on May 20, 2013, on Apparition Hill with his prayer group)
During our novena to the Holy Spirit we considered
some of Our Lady's messages on the Holy Spirit. This new message is a
wonderful opportunity to continue our reflections on the Holy Spirit!
Our Lady asks us through Ivan, to open our souls to the Holy Spirit. We
may wonder what this actually means. What does it mean to open one's
soul to the Holy Spirit?
I wonder if an analogy will help. When we have a
particularly good friend, we often will call him our "soul mate". Our
friend is so close to us that we have probably shared many of our
heart's desires, our dearest memories, our hopes and dreams, and even
our deepest sorrows. Our "soul mate" knows us pretty well. And we know
him/her equally well. There is trust between us, and peace, and unity. A
soul mate is a blessing, because that person can relieve some of our
loneliness and help us in time of need. It is as if we open our soul to
our dearest of friend. He/she knows us so well, and we trust him and
include him in our life.
The same goes for the Holy Spirit. He is a person. He
is our dearest friend, our Advocate. He would do anything for us. The
Holy Spirit is always there for us, always ready to listen to our
deepest thoughts, our memories, our joys, and our sorrows. He is the
Comforter. He longs to help us when things get tough, to think things
through with us, just like a friend would. In fact, the Holy Spirit
knows us really well!
But He is a gentleman. If we do not want His
friendship, He will wait until we do. He will not violate our space or
force His way into our lives. We have to desire to be His friend. We
have to open our soul to Him just as we would to our most trusted
friend. We have to disclose ourselves to Him so that He can come and
comfort, lead, bless, heal, and instruct us.
If we want to be soul mates with the Holy Spirit, it
will take time to build up our relationship with each other, prayer
time! It is during prayer that we make friends with the Holy Spirit. We
just open up and talk with Him, and tell Him everything about ourselves,
good and bad. The more open we are with Him, the more He can help us.
It is that simple.
Here is a lovely little prayer to the Holy Spirit that
expresses the desire to befriend Him, to draw close to Him, and to know
Him. Let's make a step towards the Holy Spirit today. Let's open our
souls to Him!
O Spirit of love,
give me grace to know you better,
and to taste and see how sweet and how gracious you are.
The joy of the world is nothing;
and the pleasure of creatures is nothing;
the desire of the eyes is nothing;
but you are all in all,
and at your right hand there are pleasures for evermore.
With you is the joy which does not fade,
and the love which does not cease.
With you is the day of rest
that remains for the people of God.
With you is the fullness of happiness.
O Spirit of glory, let the thought of this be ever with me,
and let the hope of this be the day-star of my soul.
save me from evil and keep me from sin.
O Spirit of peace, my own Beloved,
I trust you and give myself to you.
You do teach me;
for you are the Holy Spirit, the Paraclete,
whom the Father sent in the name of Jesus.
