From Opus Bono Sacerdotii: Father Steven's Christmas Miracle

Work for the Good of the Priesthood

"Dear Pete, the nursing home called me here at the Recovery Center and said that my Dad is dying. They don’t think he will make it through the end of January. My bishop has given me permission to leave for ten days so I can see Dad before the Lord takes him. My mother passed away in 2007. I would very much like my Dad to see me now as a clean and sober priest before he dies. I hope I don’t sound too desperate, but I am literally crying as I write this letter.

I asked the bishop for financial help to be able to make the trip, but he said the diocese could not afford it at this time. He suggested I contact Opus Boon. My recovery has been going very well here at the center for over a year now. The last time I saw Dad was before I came here. I know its Christmas and there are a lot of other of my brother priests up North who need your help for winter bills and food, but if there is anyway Opus Boon’s benefactors could help me, I can’t begin to express how grateful I would be. I will include all of you, and all those who help me to see my Dad one last time, in my daily Holy Masses during Christmastide. Just send me all their names – it’s all I can offer you for this miracle!

Below is my budget based on my research on Orbitz:
$532 cheapest airfare back East.
$90 for Super Shuttle to a friend of my Mom’s who will let me stay at her place while she’s down in Florida for the holidays.
$600 or whatever you can afford for food and taxi cab fare to the nursing home. I will do my best to be frugal and anything left over I will give back to Opus Bono for my brother priests who need food and heat.

I’m ashamed to ask because of my own predicament, which I am 100% responsible for, but I really have no place else to go for help! Please let me know as soon as possible so I can book the tickets and let my mom’s friend know that I’m coming.

Gratefully with prayers,

Father Steven"
