Monday of the First Week of Advent
Dear Family of Mary!
"Dear children! In a special way, today I am calling you to prayer. Pray, little children, so that you may comprehend who you are and where you need to go. Be carriers of the good news and be people of hope. Be love for all those who are without love. Little children, you will be everything and will achieve everything only if you pray and are open to God's will - to God who desires to lead you towards eternal life. I am with you and intercede for you from day to day before my Son Jesus. Thank you for having responded to my call." (November 25, 2014)
"Pray, little children, so that you may comprehend who you are and where you need to go."
The
first reading for Mass today echoes these words of instruction from Our
Lady. She tells us to pray...so that we may comprehend who we are and
where we need to go. Our Lady wants us to understand that without
prayer, we will not comprehend who we are or where we need to go. We
will actually stumble in the darkness of ignorance, not comprehending
that we are God's children and that we need to walk towards Him.
Listen to Isaiah:
This is what Isaiah, son of Amoz, saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.
In
days to come, the mountain of the Lord's house shall be established as
the highest mountain and raised above the hills. All nations shall
stream toward it; many peoples shall come and say: "Come, let us climb
the Lord's mountain, to the house of the God of Jacob, that he may
instruct us in his ways, and we may walk in his paths." For from Zion
shall go forth instruction, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem...."
Climbing
the Lord's mountain is a good image for prayer. We raise our eyes
toward the Lord, and we focus on Him. He is far above us but ready to
speak with us! Jesus often went to mountains to pray, and to instruct
the people. In prayer we can sit at Jesus' feet and hear His word. He
will show us His ways and instruct us in His paths. But I love what
comes next:
He
shall judge between the nations, and impose terms on many peoples. They
shall beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning
hooks. One nations shall not raise the sword against another, nor shall
they train for war again.
Isn't
this wonderful! God's ways are ways of peace! God's path is a path
towards reconciliation and terms of peace. No more war. No more
battling. This is what we can learn in prayer, how to forgive, to
reconcile, to make peace with ourselves and our families and nations. In
prayer we learn how to make amends for the evil we have done, and to
bless. And Isaiah continues:
O house of Jacob, come, let us walk in the light of the Lord! (Is 2: 1-5)
This
is definitely the way we should go. Wherever the light leads us we
should walk. The light is in love, in service, in peace, and in prayer.
This is where we should go!
This
Advent may we commit ourselves to climb the Lord's mountain to the
house of the God of Jacob, that He may instruct us in His ways. Even 15
to 20 minutes of prayer before the Lord could bring a change. We may
discover who we really are! We may discover where we really want to go!
Come, Lord Jesus! Come!
In Jesus, Mary and Joseph!
