Weekly Prayer Reflection for Winter
“And over all these put on love, that is the bond of perfection. And let the peace of Christ control your hearts, the peace which you were also called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly…singing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude
in your hearts to God.”
-Colossians 3:14-16

Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph
Dear Friends,
The beautiful prayer of St. Paul, cited above, is our prayer as we begin the New Year. We begin this year praying for families. We pray that God’s love and peace will permeate our lives as individuals and as families. A few weeks ago, Pope Francis spoke to a special gathering of families in Rome at St. Peter’s Square. He explained that if we lived these three simple words it would enrich our family lives. The words were “thank you, please, and sorry.” Yes, we need to say “thank you” to have the grateful heart that St. Paul talks about. We need to show respect and courtesy by using the word “please” rather than issuing demands. Lastly, we need the courage and strength to say “sorry” to admit when we have been wrong so we can achieve peace and unity. May these attitudes be strong in our families in this New Year.

Almighty God, in Your Son Jesus Christ You have poured upon us Your best gift of love. Let that love be the bond of perfection in human families, and the means to bring husband, wife and child to Your everlasting mansions. Bless our home and bless all the homes of our land in this New Year, that in them love may abound and happiness abide.
Amen
