Dear Family of Mary!

The Gospel for today's Mass contains Christ's summary of His Father's revelation to us, the condensation of the Old and New Testaments, what it all boils down to:

But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sad'ducees, they came together. And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question, to test him. "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?" And he said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the law and the prophets." (Matt 22: 34-40)

As simple and clear as these two commandments are, we all know that it is not so easy to live them. Our Lady speaks of these two commandments in this message from 1995:

"Dear children! Today I call you to love. Little children, without love you can neither live with God nor with your brother. Therefore, I call all of you to open your hearts to the love of God that is so great and open to each one of you. God, out of love for man, has sent me among you to show you the path of salvation, the path of love. If you do not first love God, then you will neither be able to love your neighbor nor the one you hate. Therefore, little children, pray and through prayer you will discover love. Thank you for having responded to my call." (April 25, 1995)

I believe that Our Lady is with us in Medjugorje to show us love. She first wants us to experience her love. This she does when we visit her there. We begin to feel the total acceptance of our Mother as we pray and walk and rest and laugh in her village. How many pilgrims have expressed the deep peace they experience in Medjugorje!! It is not because the air is good or anything else about that natural place, it is because they are experiencing the love of Mary. She introduces us to real love.

Then she draws us to her Son in the Eucharist, to adore Him. And we begin to really experience His undying, infinite love. We go to Confession and we experience His forgiving love, a love that is ready to pay the price for all our sins. Our Lady's love prepares us to understand Jesus' love, and opens us up to it. Her love helps us to dare to receive the love of Jesus.

Once we have experienced the love of Jesus and Mary, we desire the ones who love us, and we begin to pray. We are drawn to prayer. We want to pray. Through prayer, we begin to learn love from the God who is love. And love becomes the air we breathe and the water we drink, and the food we eat. Love becomes our environment.

Through prayer we begin to learn then to be love for others, to forgive, to bless, to share, to serve, to intercede, and to embrace others. This is when the Kingdom of Joy finally bursts forth in our lives. This is what Our Lady has come to do in us and for us. We will begin to live the two greatest commandments, through her guidance and Jesus' grace.

Have a blessed weekend!!
In Jesus, Mary and Joseph!
